Interestingly one of the folks I interviewed today was a young (age ~29), currently USA based developer who already has a Canada Open work permit. My guess is this is one of the 10k H1b worker who were given WPs. She is so proud her CAN WP application got approved within a week /2 weeks. She assumes that is because of her superior skills and Canada needs many people like her, more people with such ability. The numbers I gave were about tech workers and AI workers. Making six figure income is the norm and not the exception. There is indeed a lot politicians care about -- including increasing their vote bank.
But money is not bad too for the host country. Remember, Canada is like a socialist utopia -- at least in advertisements-- but then someone needs to pay the bills right? If you do not have enough babies, money can only come foreigners who work here.
As far as who is getting whose job is concerned, Tech industry is baised towards younger folks and till very recently was always in need of workers. Introduction of likes of LLMs for automated code generation might change it but it still takes many months to close an open position. During pandemic boom, my employer used to take up to an year to close a position.
She made a lot of demands
1) wants to work remote as she might want to work from the USA until the job stabilizes. My assumption is she silently plans wants to moonlight i.e. working with here current USA employer as well as work for the Canada employer.
2) Her skills are so much in demand, she wants the canada pay to be near to her USA pay. Even though we had advertised CAD pay scale about 55% of what he demanded.
I assume this is the reason there are no STEM draws as these open WP are already issued.
