It is not that hard to update the residency tool calculator. It is all based on the math formula. They can easily have it revised and ready long before the implementation date and just switch the online calculator tool on the fly.

By the way I like the option for them to use "Intend to reside." like a second stage for residency requirement which can be used to delay the application if the applicant travels abroad for a long time after he has fulfilled the first stage of residency requirement.

So in that way if the applicant doesn't want to have problems and delays with processing he must stay in Canada much more than 4 years.
In that way Canadian citizenship will be obtained after at least 5 years of residency and in some provinces the people will have to wait even longer if they don't want further delays.

I agree with that idea. I believe that a few PRs do submit their citizenship application only to leave after submitting it for a long extended time, may even max out their RO 3 year outside Canada while their citizenship application to go through. PRs who do this are in my view PRs trying to be Canadian of Convenience.

It basically means that you can apply for citizenship when you accumulate 4 years (1460 physical days) in within the 6 year period. If you put in 4 years straight, you qualify and can apply. You don't have to wait another year or 2 to apply.

After the application is submitted the applicant have to stay in Canada for the majority of time until the oath if he doesn't want further delays.

Unfortunately for different applications in different provinces this processing time may vary from months to years after the submission of the application.

As for the first link, Deepan wasn't Canadian to begin with. He was simply given a Canadian Passport in error. Nothing more. His parents were working for the Indian Embassy at time of birth. So under Diplomatic laws, he is Indian nationality. His parents tried to hide this from the government to get around that rule. The parents claimed that they were working for a Indian doctor at the time of birth when Fed government produced documents from Indian Embassy that stated that they were employed by Indian embassy at time of Deepan's birth.

Besides the article tried to make it a race issue when it has nothing to do with it. Especially in the title "reassertion of whiteness". REALLY!! Talk about blind bias while ignoring the fact that it is really about fraud and diplomatic laws of nationality and nothing to do with colour of skin.

Had Deepan been from Britain, Ireland, Columbia, or Timbuktu, or China for all I care, the laws still remain the same.

Why would Screech be worried even if the new rule does apply to him? There is a rule, it applies to all, you adhere to it, end of story. It is a legal process. Anyone with an even keeled and rational mind understands that. Worrying when it comes to clear cut regulation is a waste of nerves and time.

My wife would have to apply under the new rule once she qualifies under the old rule so she would have to wait another 1.5 year after landing. Would lose her 1 year pre-PR days towards her citizenship, thus the additional 6 months.

I mentioned this to my wife. She said doesn't care or worry about needing to acquire citizenship under the old or new rule. As long as she got the same rights as everyone else in Canada when it comes to work, charter of rights, freedom to move, etc, etc.
