Could you please arrange a US citizenship for me? A green card would also suffice. I'm married so I can't try to get married again with an American. My home country is not exactly a war zone so I'm not a refugee.

If you could also arrange a permanent job down there with 60,000 USD annual pay (I'm not greedy), it would be perfect! But if that's much to ask, just a citizenship should fine and I'll work out the rest. :p
I really hope that this is not your biggest dream in your live.

I know you are being sarcastic. I am only stating that it is easy to qualify for American citizenship. 5 years as Green Card holder. Only 1 year long than Canada new 4 year rule. And probably a lot faster than Canada citizenship process.

I made no mention about how to get green card. Just making a comparison in qualifying for each country's citizenship. Nothing more.
Then you are missing my point. All I was saying, and I'm saying this again, is that the US green card is the hardest to get for a skilled worker. From GC/PR to citizenship is a totally different issue.

I can speak from my own experience: It was A LOT easier for me get Canadian PR than the green card. I was not good enough to get the GC in the EB1 category (fastest but requires a lot of publications as a researcher/scholar). It would of taken me 5-6 years minimum to wait in the EB2 category, provided that I could find a job position with an employer willing to sponsor me and keep my position for at least that long, neither of which I could find. So I quickly decided to take the offer from Canada and got PR in about 2.5 years, from my first step into Canada to landing as PR.

So why you are taking the most difficult way to get that US papers, when at the same time thousands are getting the same papers but in a way easier way.

US has also many different ways which leads to the very same destination PR or citizenship.

Such as to bribe a small sized employer by giving your money in his pocket to do the required paperwork for you.
Tons of struggling businesses are experiencing difficulties since the start of this millennium.
Basically you pay for your own sponsorship.

There is a lot of hidden corrupted ways, you just need to be there and opportunities will start to show up around you.
There are a lot of illegal immigrants there on their way to get US PR. Just follow what they are doing.

This method is working also well along with the most easiest by marriage.
You can temporary divorce your current wife and after that merry her again. This is only on the papers.

You do realize that you have a better change getting Green Card as an illegal in US under Obama Amnesty Program.

You'll always be "not good enough", lets face it.
Do you think US is heaven? I take it you're young, full of yourself and thinking Wall St is only waiting for you.
I've seen few guys using Canada as a ramp to US and honestly they didn't hit the jackpot; some didn't make al least a pair, if you get my drift.

Good luck with that

This thread demonstrates the changes that have been undergoing in Canadian society in the past couple of decades as a result of unhealthy levels of immigration. As an old immigrant once told me: "in the past 10 years Canadians have been assimilated by immigrants".

It is very unfortunate, for immigrants like myself who came to Canada to live the Canadian life, and even more for Canadian-born citizens who have witnessed their country turn into what it is today. No concern for Canadian values and traditions. Absolute obsession with one's self and crab mentality.

Based on the comments in this thread, I think we can all agree that "Canadian of convenience" don't exist. That the popular phrase "applying on the way to the airport" was a misjudged statement, an expression of overwhelm by immigrants, more so than an observation. Then, the conservative government spending money and the parliament's time to solve a problem that doesn't exist must be a mistake? Or that's just what conservatives do?

Judgmental much? I'm not young (depending on how you define "young"), neither full of myself nor thinking Wall St is waiting for me. If I was full of myself, I wouldn't have said myself "not good enough" for anything.

I was just using myself to compare the easiness of PR between USA and Canada. As a skilled worker, I was good enough for Canada, but not good enough for USA.

PS You are right that if the standard is keeps raising, everyone will be "not good enough" at some point, tho.

It is strange that in this global open wide world, people still dream for something which is so easy to be achieved.

Every time when I go in US it doesn't seem to me like a country from another planet.

If that's the case for you, I feel really sorry for you man. But in my case and many of my friends, we do actually love Canada. If I get an offer in the US for the same job as I am doing here (I am an engineer), I would still choose Vancouver/Canada. This is the place I call home now, I want to have my family here, and grow old. It was never for escaping from where I used to live....
I can assure you that for 90% of the immigrants, if they, for whatever reason, couldn't make it to Canada they will look for another immigration country. Once you come and establish a life here it is a different story. Some immigrants fool themselves by pretending that they were born to become Canadians and nothing else, this is just bull*censored word*. Just like some prefer to think of themselves as Vancouverian or Torontonian by nature.

For most (normal) people, immigration to a first world country is their primary objective and then comes the selection among Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc. After all, the living standards and culture are very similar in these countries, It's like selecting between Coke and Pepsi. Everyone has a preference but most people won't mind having one if they can't get the other. Of course some are very picky but these are just the exception not the rule.
