To be honest, it doesn't matter who will be the next government, whether it's the conservatives, liberals or dippers. They will not reverse the citizenship rules as they know it is quite popular with the voters. Changing the citizenship rules is the least of their concerns.

Of course , there is no such thing like a perfect government, just like there is no perfect country.

There is an overarching concern, and what has happened to many us is but a symptom of the damage that this government has done to the fabric of this country. All parties are prone to doing things that are politically expedient, but the level of disregard for the rule of law, the cynicism, and lack of common decency exhibited by Harper and co. is truly troubling.

I say this as a long-time supporter of the Conservative Party. It looks like I'll be able to vote this fall, and honestly I do not know what I am going to do.

If you'll be able to vote, you'll be able to be elected also so if all is so disastrous, maybe you're the solution.

I'm not sure if it is the government is to held accountable or is it the managerial and administrative level at CIC. As I see it the government determines the high level guidelines and policies but the implementation is the responsibility of the administrative level which is a-political. In that case I think that the huge delays are created due to poor implementation and not bad policy . I think that giving Canadian citizenship only to those who deserve it is a good thing , however the way that this policy was executed and the huge backlogs it created was due to poor management .

This is a copy from my post from another topic of a rhetorical question almost in the same sense .

Basically there are 2 options:

1.CIC doesn't have efficient and reliable way to verify the actual physical presence , or

2.CIC deliberately want's to slow down some portion of the applications without particular reason.

The nerve wracking fact is that , there're different times during the process in which an RQ can be delivered.

But after all that's why this process is so interesting.

People can ask themselves , if the main requirement to get this citizenship is just by being physically here for the required period of time and if CIC doesn't have the means to verify that physical presence , then why there is any processing fee in place.
What the agents are actually doing there?

This is a simple process which artificially is converted to a complex one.

I agree mainly with "deliberately want's to slow down some portion of the applications without particular reason" there are times when the process its extremely slow and there are times when it is extremely fast. Eg. they are currently opening applications for THIS MONTH, YES APRIL.. Normally they are like 3-4 MONTHS BEHIND.. So they definitely deliberately doing it..... Also, whats the sense in speeding up all these to the current month, which I have never seen before and sending all those applications to local office and local office continues to sit on applications...

One reason for this current month opening of applications is because of the new law which is about to take effect and as such they don't want any backlog to catch into the new law. As far as i'm concern its the Government that causes this which leads to the bad/poor management of the ones who follow under them.

I refer you to the discussion in the thread "Proof for residency when a case is destined to a citizenship judge ". You might gain some insights and thoughts as to how CIC selects the portion subjected to the delays.

The troth is that a problematic application might get a fast and smooth processing and on the other hand a perfect and clean application can get a massive delays.

I will vote and support the Conservative government.

There are many things on the CIC process that could be better, yes, there are many, but I wouldn't blame the conservative government for that.

I don't think Liberals would be much better, actually would be probably worst.

My own personal opinion.

In power.
They are doing a good job.

That's funny. It is still easy to get American citizenship. You wait 5 years as Green Card to qualify (1 year longer than Canada). And yet it is quite difficult to renounce US citizenship. Costly and time consuming processing and probably longer than Canadian citizenship process.
Could you please arrange a US citizenship for me? A green card would also suffice. I'm married so I can't try to get married again with an American. My home country is not exactly a war zone so I'm not a refugee.

If you could also arrange a permanent job down there with 60,000 USD annual pay (I'm not greedy), it would be perfect! But if that's much to ask, just a citizenship should fine and I'll work out the rest. :p

I know you are being sarcastic. I am only stating that it is easy to qualify for American citizenship. 5 years as Green Card holder. Only 1 year long than Canada new 4 year rule. And probably a lot faster than Canada citizenship process.

I made no mention about how to get green card. Just making a comparison in qualifying for each country's citizenship. Nothing more.

Seems to me that you want another country citizenship given to you on a silver plate. Different countries have their own prerogative in how to earn citizenship. Some are a lot harder than others. Switzerland for example has a 10 year wait. France probably one of the easiest, citizenship by marriage. Take MP Tom Muclair. He has French citizenship through marriage and never step foot in France.
