This is funny! Depending how you consider, it could be: month/day/year or day/month/year
This is why you had April 2 :P :P

Hey guys! Just curious - did anyone in this thread send in their applications without doing the medical upfront? If so, when you got your SA, was there a note on there telling you to do the medical ASAP?

I'm catching up, because I've been largely away from my computer for a week. We sent in medicals that were done almost 4 years ago, so they are obviously expired. They didn't mention this fact at all in the SA letter. I'm sure they will ask for a new one when it gets closer to COPR.

hello guys
I'm always busy (school) so i'm never on my computer. Anyway, this process is just too LONG and ABYSMAL! I still haven't received S.A and e-cas isn't being updated..well in my case atleast. I swear i'm on the verge of breaking down right now because i miss my mom,and i wanna see my 3year old brother, who i've never seen before by the way. I'm all alone in south africa,my granny passed away last year and they won't give me a visitors visa to visit my mom! I have no ties to my home country at all... ;-(

Hey GT hang in there! It will all be worth it in the end! But it takes time and patience. Can your mom and brother go visit you?

Well, the web page says 21 months for Nairobi, so if you hear anything from them before 12 to 21 months, it is probably because there is a problem with your application. The next thing you hear will probably be a request for an interview or a passport request because you've been approved.

The wait times are weird. The Moscow office is 18 months, yet people seem to get approved and landed within 6-9 months often (some even sooner). I don't understand ;o

There is a big spread in processing times. It depends on how complicated your background check turns out to be, whether they need to do an interview, etc. Things like investigating to see if you are really divorced from a previous partner and investigating the 8 countries that you've lived in, etc., can take a long time. Straightforward applications can often be extremely fast, while the difficult cases can go over the wait time they list.

They used to list 3 numbers. I think it was 25% of applications, 50% and 75%, or something like that. The people whose applications were not in the first 25% used to phone constantly to see why their applications weren't done yet. Really, all it did was create false expectations.

Probabilities are complicated things that people don't understand well. If you tell someone that there's a 20% chance of rain tomorrow, many of them will conclude that it's going to rain tomorrow, when in actual fact, there is very little chance of it raining.

So, taking Moscow as an example, when they say 18 months, probably 75% of applications are spread out between 6 months and 18 months, with the average being somewhere in the middle. The other 25% of applications are completed in less than 6 months or more than 18 months.

By giving a figure of 18 months, they are trying to tell you not to keep pestering them because it's normally not productive to do that. If it comes to 18 months and you still haven't heard anything, there is something wrong and at that point you have reason to pester them. This leaves them free to work on your file without constantly being interrupted by questions from you. It's annoying to those of us who are waiting, but it makes for the most efficient process.

Great answer.
The updated file was just updated in february but I cannot understand it ( http://data.gc.ca/data/en/dataset/427337d0-7c36-4fed-8428-c6a63f8c19b3 )
Like you stated above the percentages in the file do not add up.
Would you kindly explain why the percentages do not add up to 100% and whether the numbers below represent months for process. Thx.

The numbers do represent months for processing. Looking at the overall numbers for spouses and partners during the last 12 months in the first tab, 20% of cases are completed in less than 6 months, 30% in less than 7 months, 50% in less than 10 months (this is the median, close to the average), 70% in less than 15 months, and 80% in less than 18 months. These numbers are cumulative, so there is nothing to add up. The first 20% of people are included in the first 30%, etc. The last 20% are completed in more than 18 months.

That helps to understand. I kinda assumed all that, it's just so complicated. Luckily for me, I have no criminal record, me and wifey have only been married once (not in 8 different countries) :D. Should be straight forward. ^^
