It is worded a little weird, but it also says "If the marriage took place outside of Canada, it must be valid under the law of the country where it took place as well as under Canadian federal law." which is basically what we said here, too. Good luck! 8)

Same-sex marriage outside of Canada is only valid in Canada if the country you got married in holds the same laws, meaning that country recognizes same-sex marriage as equal and legal.

My last name has a German ö in it, but I'm using only English characters for the application. But 2 times (I think) in the application they ask you for the name spelled in native language and that's where I use the actual spelling with ö.
