Hello there,
The purpose of this note is to ask whether, under my current situation, I could apply to sponsor my wife, because we intend to move to live permanently in Canada (Quebec). If the answer is yes, how to proceed?
I am a Canadian citizen. I left Canada In 2007 and found myself back in my country of birth Lebanon, married and with three kids now.
I have newly applied for the citizenship certificate for my kids. They say it will take between 2 month and a year to complete. As I filed for the citizenship certificate, we had not decided that we are moving to Canada, so I didn’t ask those question at the embassy.
As I left Canada, I was writing a Phd and was still benefiting from the Quebec Student Loans. I had also some debts written on my visa credit card (it was about 5000 CAD at that time).
The personal and family financial situation I found myself in as it was made it for me impossible to reimburse the money. I tried to negotiate with the bank (RBC), but they insisted on monthly installments that I could not effectuate. Our negotiations ended finally to nothing. The AFE (the student loan) transfered the case to a recovering agency (agence de recouvrement) and the bank finished our negotiations and I found they closed my checking account and put my credit card to zero. They have not so far communicated the logic of the action to me. So I totally ignore what it means.
Now as we are planing to move to Canada, I am not sure what is my status. I have written to the bank but got no answer so far. I will try to call the “Centre de service du recouvrement” to see what information they can provide.
Any advice?
Khalil Ibrahim
