CiC officials are not spirits, they also understand that sometimes it is just practically impossible to remember the exact dates. And the reason why they need this info is to help during the background checks- so they know exactly where and what time to look at..

In my application, i purposely left out the exact dates because i couldn't remember all , and i don't want to write wrong dates, so i skipped specific dates all together and just put in the months and years. Worst of all , i didn't even include any letter to explain.

So , if u don't remember ur exact date, write the months and years. include a letter and tell them that u can't remember the exact dates.

Thanks a lot 8)

Does anyone have any experience with the Montreal local office?. How long after DM should I expect to get my landing appointment letter. The file was transferred to Montreal after AIP for further second stage processing(background checks) in October 2012. It took Montreal 3 years and 8 months to give me a decision. So curious to know if I should expect another long wait for the appointment letter since they love my file so much, and I understand how letting it go could lead to severe depression, its like losing your first born, isn't it...(excuse the sarcasm, I couldn't help myself)...cheers!

Hello, I am in need of some assistance. I have applied to sponsor my wife for PR. We have received our AIP and in the letter they said that we can now apply for an Open Work Permit (OWP) online. Does anyone have any experience doing this or a guide? I have tried many times to apply but the MyCIC tells me that first I need to take the Edibility Questionnaire but I Can't get the option to apply for an OWP. It only tells me that we are apply to apply through Family Sponsorship Class or through Express Entry. Any information at all would be greatly appreciated !

You apply via the Family Class sponsorship stream, since the Inland application is what qualifies you for the OWP.

The form that you need is IMM5710 and the total fee, is $255.

It seems like CIC is speeding up the process (including Inland applicants), so you might be surprised to see the all important `DM' (decision made) email, very soon...which would make the OWP not worth applying for, IMO.

Good luck!

Hello if my sponsorship is not approved on 43days after the application documents is received, please is there any problem?

There is no issue if it takes longer the number of days posted can be off sometimes

We received the request for the Medical and Police background check about a week apart. Generally this is near the end of the process correct ? What do you mean I can apply through the Family Class sponsorship stream? Do you mean apply for an OWP with a mail application. I was trying to figure out how to apply online but I cant seem to answer the Questionnaire correctly. How soon do you think we will get the DM if you think its not worth applying for the OWP? My wife has been off work for almost a year now and is getting abit bored to say the least haha thanks alot

Hello there,

The purpose of this note is to ask whether, under my current situation, I could apply to sponsor my wife, because we intend to move to live permanently in Canada (Quebec). If the answer is yes, how to proceed?

I am a Canadian citizen. I left Canada In 2007 and found myself back in my country of birth Lebanon, married and with three kids now.

I have newly applied for the citizenship certificate for my kids. They say it will take between 2 month and a year to complete. As I filed for the citizenship certificate, we had not decided that we are moving to Canada, so I didn’t ask those question at the embassy.

As I left Canada, I was writing a Phd and was still benefiting from the Quebec Student Loans. I had also some debts written on my visa credit card (it was about 5000 CAD at that time).

The personal and family financial situation I found myself in as it was made it for me impossible to reimburse the money. I tried to negotiate with the bank (RBC), but they insisted on monthly installments that I could not effectuate. Our negotiations ended finally to nothing. The AFE (the student loan) transfered the case to a recovering agency (agence de recouvrement) and the bank finished our negotiations and I found they closed my checking account and put my credit card to zero. They have not so far communicated the logic of the action to me. So I totally ignore what it means.
Now as we are planing to move to Canada, I am not sure what is my status. I have written to the bank but got no answer so far. I will try to call the “Centre de service du recouvrement” to see what information they can provide.

Any advice?

Student loans and credit card debt will not prevent you from being approved as a sponsor.

But shouldn't I prove capable of assuring the financial needs of my wife? How when I have proven irresponsible by being unable to repay my student loan? Or do you mean that basically it doesn't but then I should address the matter now? In that case where should I start?

Contact the recovering agency, start repaying the debt? But then how much money should I have so that they would accept my sponsor request?

Many thanks

that just means they don't care for your student debts they just want to know where the money is coming from to give them reason to believe you can take care of her as well as yourself (ie. a full time job or any income from sources that back up your claim) don't worry about the other stuff credit Is not a requirement of sponsorship

Ok. This comes as a surprise. So you are suggesting, they wouldn't even expect me to start reimbursing my debts because they will not even look into that matter. So they will not check my credit rating or so. Am I understanding right?

Now, concerning the matter of income. I have no job in Canada. I am currently working in Lebanon. But we do have money now. Especially my wife. She has the money from her parents. So would a bank account be considered a sufficient security in my case? And how much do you think it should have? It is we two and three babies (the oldest is now three and a half years).

Many thanks

Hello there!
I have a question.
My wife and I submitted spousal sponsorship aplication in august 2015.
I received an email from cic asking me to provide police certificate although my wife's sponsor assessment is still in process. Knowing that I submitted my medical exam when I applied for work permit in February 2016
Does any body know how long will it take to receive a decision?
Thank u.

Impossible to predict. Because you have not submitted your police certificate if I had to guess I would say at least two months or more.
