My visitor extension/visitor record arrived today, im was given until 2017/march.
I saw some in the spreadsheet was given until 2018, maybe because i inputed for 6 months only ;D

Since it came from Vegreville AB as well, it takes 5 business days from the date of issue and received it from mailbox.
most likely same from our OWP.

yes, if you want a longer extension, you have to ask for it. if you have to apply for another extension, it's recommended to ask for at least 12 months so you don't have to keep applying.

The OWP gives you legal status in Canada -- that's what you need to remain. You can save your money on the TRV extension.

They only show processing times for extension (not my case) and new visitor visa from inside Canada (not my case either). I'm trying to get some idea when should I expect an answer...

anyone with owp care to advise how long it took to arrive in the mail after being approved? its been 2 weeks so far and the pdf from cic said to only call to chase it after 6 weeks. I'm in bc so it will probably be different for us all but just so I know canada post is shocking and not that its lost......

Mine was issued to me on August 02 and it STILL has not arrived in the mail. I am in Edmonton so it should have been here within days. My 6 weeks is up on Tuesday....hopefully you are not in the same boat as me because having to wait an extra 6 weeks is incredibly frustrating.

I visitor extension application received by cic last may 20. Paper application, total of 3 months 20 days.

The OWP gives you legal status in Canada -- that's what you need to remain. You can save your money on the TRV extension.

To remain in Canada, yes. To re-enter Canada if you want to go for a trip somewhere, not so. If you are not from a visa-exempt country you will need to apply for a TRV (the stamp in your passport) to re-enter if it is expired. You'll notice the work permit specifically says 'This document does not guarantee re-entry'.

This is true -- but it's generally not a good idea to travel while your application is in process. You run the risk of having an immigration officer at the border revoking it due to it being abandoned.
