Great! We don't want that nonsense here in Canada, I'm glad the government is doing something about it. It's no better than these so called "honour killings" and other barbaric practices. The whole multiple marriage "culture" encourages things like underage marriages and human trafficking, and removes the right of the woman to consent to her own marriage. It's disgusting, and quite frankly has no place in a modern society.

I wholeheartedly believe that all people (men and women) have a basic human right to self-determination. That's why I will argue FOR polyamory among consenting adults until I'm blue in the face - as long as everyone's equal and on the same page about everything I don't see anything wrong with others doing what they want to do with their lives, as long as they aren't hurting anyone else. But the religious polygamy involving underage girls and women who can't consent to their own marriages, that shit needs to stop for the benefit of everyone and I'd be perfectly happy to refuse entry into Canada on those grounds.

The changes would mean that a polygamist permanent resident or foreign national who is or will be physically present in Canada with even one of their polygamous spouses would be considered to be practising polygamy in Canada. The permanent resident or foreign national could be found inadmissible on that basis alone, without requiring evidence that the person misrepresented their situation or has a criminal conviction.

Very very informative thread

Definitely is, especially blujewel believing that Canada should accept other countries' laws as its own because of the immigrant's native country cultural and religious laws. This is an example why Canada expects immigrants to accept Canadian laws and not the other way around.

I have my wedding date set and my fiancee and i are working on the immigration paperwork and getting things together, and I noticed that if you were divorced outside of Canada theres a whole laundry list of things needed to get a marriage license in Ontario. My question is, as an american, do I have to send those things in? or does it just apply to Canadians?

If you go onto the marriage licence site it will give you the forms that you have to fill in . You have to take it to a family lawyer and they will verify the information Divorce certificate etc. You then have to send that package to the Ontario Licence and marriage office , can't remember now the address . They will then send you the acceptance letter and you then have to take that to get your licence .It took about a week for the lawyer to get his act together then another 2 weeks to get back the paperwork.
