what does it mean when - "Officer opened the file", does it indicates he has done some work or the inprocess application will be mentioned like that.

Yes i do have AOR got it in Jan 2020 and inprocess since Feb 17th 2020. when i called CIC call center .. lady over phone said that Officer opened your file on feb 1st 2021. And she could not say for what reason it was opened.

Then if you received AOR it means that they have started working on your application.

I am in the same situation. Mine was received on November 15, 2019.
AOR on February 10, 2020 and started processing my application on February 18, 2020. Yet, here I am still waiting for the invite.

Do they send the invite over regular mail or over email or on the application status page?

They send through email and e-CAS does show any update.

Thanks for the reply. So, it's legit my application is taking longer than usual. When I check on e-CAS, it still says "In Process". Very frustrating.

I applied in October to 2019, AOR Jan 16, in process feb 4 2020, first update was online test invite on January 27 2021. Already wrote and am waiting no updates since then.
