You think we should make the subdivision in the shape of a crescent moon?

As long as we all get our "perfect" sized lot.. Why not... We need room for all those workshops/ tool sheds/ and animals.. Might as well put in a big grean space for all the little ones!

Oh, I guess we'll have to make it acreage. Maybe petal shaped lots. Small in the front arouns a cul-de-sac so we can visit without a huge walk (or maybe a huge walk is a good idea?) and huge backyards for all our toys? Then our subdivision would look like a flower from the air.

In that case, the first bylaw should be "Temperatures outside cannot dip below 15C at any time."

Considering how rude HR and hiring managers have become, getting even a letter is really awesome. Most don't see the point. They claim they're too busy, it costs too much money, blah blah blah. Then they complain how rude job seekers are, not calling them back, showing up late. Talk about calling the kettle black.

I've found it takes me about 6 weeks to find a job. It will probably take me longer once I land, because I plan to be picky lol. Oh, and demand at least one Friday off a month. Hubby has Friday/Saturday off. If we ever want to be able to take weekend trips, that's going to be needed.

I know right?! They are even worse when you tell them "Oh yeah, I have a hearing loss, but it won't be an issue because I can do this job" UGGGH. I have hearing loss, Tony has ADHD. We're the handiabled couple haha. It's been told to us several times "Most people hiring look at CANADIAN job history, and ignore anything else" Joy.

If that was true, I'd never get calls back. My American job history worked just fine for several employers. It was the LMO part that didn't work.

But my most recent job was with a company with branches in the US and Canada, so maybe they didn't read the "Ohio" or "Georgia" part?

The Parkerlettes are coming to the subdivision yes? Ms. M needs some babysitting cash :P

History is often a matter of perspectives. I've found the Canadian take on the War of 1812 an interesting one, since it makes a distinction between "Canada" (which didn't technically exist yet) and "Great Britain" (which did technically exist). My recollection was that it was the impression of sailors on American merchant ships that caused quite a bit of friction between the US and Britain, though like all wars there are often complex reasons for them (http://www.thefinertimes.com/War-of-1812/why-did-the-war-of-1812-start.html has a decent write-up).

The US didn't have a navy and their military wasn't much more than the irregulars and militia from the rebellion/revolution 35 years earlier - and they proved that by having their asses handed to them. Of course, I find it equally interesting that in the 1812 reviews the treatment of a critical ally in that conflict - the First Nations people - is pretty much ignored.

History is often presented as factual but in fact is typically biased by the authors of those histories, the politics of their times and their own innate biases. That's why it's actually good to read perspectives from multiple sides. When I first got here I picked up the "Penguin Book of Canadian History" and read it. I enjoyed some of the differences in perspective between what I'd been taught in school and what I read in that book.

Still, there's far more common heritage than not between the two countries. Much like two siblings will have different recollections of the same events because they each have different perspectives.

mainstream discourses of North American history almost always neglects the plights and achievements of Native peoples. it's troubling.

I'll rephrase :P in this area haha. Which is weird considering I live 5 minutes from the 1000 Islands Bridge.. GRRR

Eventually yes haha. Though not for a year or so. We'd like to have (or one of us to have) a full time job before some hardcore knitting :P ;)

Have you considered doing home daycare? I bet there's a niche market for ASL. Either families with a deaf member or parents who would love their kids to learn ASL.

You can be a total queen about it too and only take kids 7-4 or 7:30-4:30. Tons of the dayhomes here do it and they're packed.

Fortunately, that no longer happens.

It's actually rather shameful reading on the plight of the First Nations people in Canada.

History continues to be written by the victor, even when such victories come from genocide, germ warfare and other acts for which someone asking to come to Canada as an immigrant would be refused. I guess it's OK if you're already in Canada.
