Oh I understand haha, I'm proud of my Canada stuff! I even have a flag that plays the national anthem here at work...

Yes, it's a great idea to plan your next vacation, I do that a lot too! I used to make these imaginary vacation plans for people at work, like we'd all go travelling around the world, it was fun! Of course it's always better when you actually get to go to those places, but sometimes finding information about other countries on the internet and planning what places I'd visit there makes me feel better! Sounds funny but hey it works for me

Whatever keeps the mind occupied.. especially while your waiting!! I keep thinking if I go to Malawi it will be my last trip until summer 2015.. and if I don't.. then I wont get back until 2015.. Though Mr. M keeps telling me he will be here by summer.. and I just shake my head and say yes dear! Where is your top vacation get away??

My husband bought me a "Canada" shirt. It's freaking huge. I could fit two of me in there and that's saying a lot cuz I'm chubby.

I am gonna bet hubby wanted it to fit and for you to feel Canadian for a LONG time.. thinking he may never have to buy another!

I think hubby bought it in his ex-wife's size! My nephew (a 17 year old loud mouth know-it-all) has told me how fat she is/was.

He also tried to teach ME American history. Denied!

As for me well I'll tell you where I'd love to go: Thailand (have a friend over there), Australia would be amazing too, or Bali, or Spain, France...
the thing is, my husband and I traveled a lot in Europe so I'd love to go somewhere else.. but assuming I get the PR (no reason why I wouldn't but of course I won't know until they've made a decision!) we'd be living in Canada (well obviously haha) so then I'd love to go to Hawaii, Barbados, Florida...Brazil too!

I need sun, palm trees, sea, beach...that's why I chose those ones!

I second Thailand. My sil is Thai, so I technically have family (in-law) over there now.

Malawi is great.. I do love it over there.. and I will post a pic or two for you tonight.. as I don't have any at work!! I love all of your suggestions.. I still got a few hot spots to see in Africa, but I quite love Zanzibar and could stay on the beach in Kendwa for weeks, and never tire!!! I am trying to make the most of my stop overs when flying to Africa as i usually have to connect somewhere in Europe.. but my ultimate destination.. not sure.. always wanted to explore Costa Rica and see what the hype outta KG and POS threads are all about!!

Haha!! Last year I had to rush out to get my kids 4th of July shirts because my mom sent them Canada ones that they wore on Canada Day and I thought I had better remind them that they were also half American....lol

Yeah it seams like I'm always teaching my American husband American history : I about fell of the couch when I saw his younger sisters history book when we were dating. The whole WW2 chapter pretty much went "Hitler was a Nazi and tried to take over the world.... America saved everyone's a$$" I was like...um nope!!!! I felt I leared a lot of Canadian history(even if I had to correct a lot of the history of the maritimes when we moved to Alberta ) but I'm really glad that we leaned a lot of world history where as it seems all the American history is all "here is how America is the best and is the great amazing hope and only country that can do anything" yet some how kids still can't seem to find their own country on a world map

History is often a matter of perspectives. I've found the Canadian take on the War of 1812 an interesting one, since it makes a distinction between "Canada" (which didn't technically exist yet) and "Great Britain" (which did technically exist). My recollection was that it was the impression of sailors on American merchant ships that caused quite a bit of friction between the US and Britain, though like all wars there are often complex reasons for them (http://www.thefinertimes.com/War-of-1812/why-did-the-war-of-1812-start.html has a decent write-up).

The US didn't have a navy and their military wasn't much more than the irregulars and militia from the rebellion/revolution 35 years earlier - and they proved that by having their asses handed to them. Of course, I find it equally interesting that in the 1812 reviews the treatment of a critical ally in that conflict - the First Nations people - is pretty much ignored.

History is often presented as factual but in fact is typically biased by the authors of those histories, the politics of their times and their own innate biases. That's why it's actually good to read perspectives from multiple sides. When I first got here I picked up the "Penguin Book of Canadian History" and read it. I enjoyed some of the differences in perspective between what I'd been taught in school and what I read in that book.

Still, there's far more common heritage than not between the two countries. Much like two siblings will have different recollections of the same events because they each have different perspectives.
