I'm on my wife's benefits from work as well. They are fine and cover 80% of specific expenses (such as dental), which is pretty good. However they don't cover things like hospital stays etc at all, so I had to get a private insurance plan which does.

It's an extra expense I'm not very happy about since, y'know, I can't work while waiting... but it certainly came in handy when I broke a tooth and had to have a root canal. It paid itself off right there.

My strong recommendation is: Get private insurance.
Same boat as I'm in.

I applied for PR and an OWP Inland. I called the CIC on the day my IEC expired and had it confirmed to me that I was legally allowed to continue to work under implied status.
Here we go again ... ???

Fantastic, good for you, I am glad you didn't fall in to the same trap as everyone else.

Or vice versa! We all know half the time call Center agents does not offer accurate information... At least I've proven that myself. The best of luck on bothe sides though! :)

Hi all, sent my inland application this April (and my working visa has expired before I sent the inland application, so I have no status here in Canada)....now waiting patiently (it is quite a disappointment when I saw the processing time change from 6 months to 10 months.)

I wonder since I cannot leave the country, can I fly or travel to other province of Canada to visit friends? Will I get caught by the airline or in the airport?

Thanks a lot

As far as I know, no, because Canadian citizens aren't expected to even have a passport when they fly in Canada. There are no border services in the airports you'd be flying into.

Don't you have to provide a valid photo ID, even for domestic flights within Canada? (I've only flown domestically within the U.S., and you have to have a state or federally-issued photo ID to be able to fly.) I've no idea of the policy on that, but I would be nervous about going to the airport with a passport with an expired visitor stamp as my form of ID.

I don't remember well, but I think I showed my passport when I took a plane from Toronto to Quebec.

We can't leave Canada, but we can travel within Canada.

But you've also been in status the entire time you've been in Canada.

Yup we can't leave Canada but we can certainly fly locally. Any government photo ID is acceptable, like maybe would you have a canadian drivers licence? If not your passport will do, and not to worry because all they'll look at is the first page of your passport. It'll take about 2 seconds, they don't care if your immigration documents are expired. My only question to you is, shouldn't you update your immigration documents since your work permit has expired before you submitted you PR app? Just making sure you're safe in terms of not being sent home to your home country. :)

Hello everyone,

We submitted our inland PR application + OWP end of May 2013, and received a confirmation letter from CIC early June. I saw there was a spreadsheet going around keeping track of how people are doing, but it did not seem updated (or no one has received anything): has anyone that applied in 2013 received their open work permit yet?

Thanks for your info,
Nadia

Hey guys!

My situation:

My girlfriend is currently on her post grad work permit and has exactly 1 year remaining. She is applying for PR: FAMILY CLASS - INLAND. We are mailing the docs to Alberta tomorrow! In the same package as her PR app, she will submit the form to change her post grad visa to an open work visa ONCE AIP is granted. (AIP takes about 8 months, so she should have the open work visa granted BEFORE her post grad work permit expires). I also talked to the CIC agent and even if the AIP takes LONGER than 1 year and her PGWP expires, she CAN continue to work in her current job because she gets 'implied status'. But really, there is a very very small chance that AIP takes longer than 1 year so she should get her open work visa in about 8 months.

SO....my point here is that I got a lot of tips and help from these forums. so thanks.

If i see any noobs on here in the same situation, I'll be sure to help with the knowledge that i gained through my experience.

:)

OWP will be issued after AIP. Almost applicants in 2013 are waiting for AIP as well as applicants in late 2012.

I'm wondering with the times posted....wouldn't my police certificate be expired by the time it reaches step 2 of my application? Since it's only valid 3 months from the date issued? I already had this done months ago but its past 3 months so I can't send that one in :\ which is stupid because I don't have a record at all. I just don't want to do fingerprinting 3 times ???
