I do not think that is right.

I did a head on comparison of US (Seattle) and Canada (Victoria). Numbers are not very different. Prices are from IGA and Save on food. I tried keeping the brand names similar and sub-kind similar. Left side is USD in Seattle, right is in Canada with prices in CDN.

Mushrooms : 7.99USD : 9.00 CDN
Tofu : 4.49; 3.99
Tomato (150): 0.82 : 0.82
Cauliflower: 3.99 : 3.49
White onions 1 KG : 7.7 : 5.5
Green Beans(450): 2.47 : 4.5
Spinach : 2.59 : 2.99
Skimmed Milk 4L: 6.59 : 5.79
Whole milk 4L : 7.60 : 6.15
Chicken Breast : 4.84 : 11.37
Whole Chicken 1.5KG : 15.48 : 13.11
Large Eggs (12) : 6.29 : 7.49
Rice Basmati (907 Grams) : 6.99 : 4.95
Whole Wheat (Aashirwad) 9100 grams : 40.0 :20.0

Note : These are food items and groceries. I am not comparing a diner / restaurant cost. That might be higher because labour is expensive in Canada.
I'll forward this list to him.
Indian restaurants are seemingly more expensive down south.
Example, a plate of idly and dosa cost around 40usd, while in gta it would be 25-30 cad

That was one of the most idiotic things done by the Canadian government and it made no sense at that time. It gave a false sense of hope to thousands of low wage and low skilled workers. It was only a one time thing and no matter how much the students protest, nothing is ever going to happen. They cannot vote so their voice is meaningless in the grander scheme of things. There were a lot of protests by undocumented workers recently and nothing happened. Politicians generally don’t care about non nationals who cannot vote. I think some international students from India have taken the tolerance and politeness of Canada for granted and have this misconception that it is some sort of subservient state which makes decisions based on which interest group shouts the loudest. In reality, education is a business here and the government wants to milk international students as much as possible. After their education is done, they only want the ones who work in high wage sectors to stick around permanently cause in reality, majority of the tax revenues come from only 20% of the population, meaning from those who are making the median wage and above. They want the rest to go back after they’ve been exploited. The international students from India who attend the private diploma mills, have been scammed by education agents back in India and not the Canadian government. Yet, for some reason, despite knowing all of this, they arrive in droves and prefer to live in garbage conditions and be exploited rather than staying in India.
On the other hand, big businesses lobby for wage suppression, and filling up so many TFWs has without a doubt helped these big as well as small businesses cut payroll costs significantly. Apparently a few years ago according to stories, your local timmies would have at least a few white and/or born Canadians, now you'd be hard pressed to find even one. Timmies franchisee owners love TFWs, they can't get enough of them. They also own houses, which now they are increasingly renting per bed space navinball style.

These people vote, lobby or make their voices heard.

What I think will happen is Canada will figure out a way to keep these temporary students stay temporary for a long time, till many give up and leave or are too old to work and then they bring more fresher students in and repeat.

As for as the great Canadian diploma scam, the government is as much hand in glove as the owners of these institutions. The agents in India are simply encashing on these wants of going abroad for no proper reason. This might not continue though, but North India is so poor that this Canadian life is better than India. Here at least they can dream freely.

Looks like Ontario tried to sweep literally everyone with Trade occupations. 2855 invitations and score between 250-516. Out of which they will definitely lose 1500 invitations to the EE Trades draw. Either it’s a master stroke as they anticipated the EE draw and hence invited more numbers than usual or it’s plain simple dumb if they actually wanted to invite that many people. Either way, the communication between Ontario and IRCC seems non existent.
They must have choreographed their draws right? I mean at the very least Ontario needed to access the list of candidates from the Federal's pool, and issue NOIs using IRCC's system, so they must have known in advance.
OINP invites way more professions then the Federal's trade invite, so it actually doesn't make sense for them to set the cut-off score below IRCC's score, because a lot of high scoring candidates not on the Federal's trade NOC list would be screwed. The easiest solution is what they implemented: issue everyone an NOI and invite more people than IRCC's invite.
Maybe they actually have communication, and IRCC postponing STEM draws is also an attempt to not screw over OINP's HCP tech draw.

System is working in perfect harmony.
Corporations want more immigration to keep costs down so they've figured out an entry system through these colleges.
Corporations are happy. Colleges are full. Politicians get more lobbyist funds and rising property value.
Hell ykw, even the Punjabis are happy coz I realised this recently, despite the obscene wage suppression, an unskilled or low skilled punjabi earns a lot more in Canada than India or GCC.

Canadian citizens don't really have a unified voice. LPC and CPC are both very pro immigration. Majority of Real voters are pro immigration. Millennials and GenZs are too busy making ends meet.

It's very a very clever system.

I hope the Canadian govt stops the Indian diploma mill system.
The diploma mills responsible are NOT Indian. They are Canadian ones like Lambda College. If Canada wants to blame anyone, it should blame itself for not weeding out these degreee/diploma mills.

Indians are being blamed because of their numbers. These Canadian mills are used by every other nationality too. Indians only suffer from the curse of being one of the most numerous people on the planet. They are numerous every where. Totally legal immigration, grey areas, diploma mills and overtly illegal human trafficking too. They are over-represented because they are the biggest population on the planet.

Had they not been that numerous, there would have been various African countries or Chinese.

Ultimately, GDP size doesn’t matter when you have subpar living conditions and overpopulation.
If GDP of India were say 100 billion only with the same population, India's condition would have been worse! Much much worse!

There are things India has been able to achieve simply because Indian GDP is high enough.

Things likes being able to vaccinate its population while entire world was scrambling for vaccines. Asks many countries of Africa. My parents and cousins in India got vaccinated earlier than we did in Canada.

Things like being able to feed its populace during pandemic.

Things like being able to control inflation.

Thing like being able to build enough buffer stock of grains so that shock from world events like Russian invasion of Ukraine does not force your population to choose between rice and heating in winters.

Large GDP matters.
