Actually, from how I'm reading it, your ex is not responsible to cover all your needs for 3 years after landing. You're responsible for doing your best to provide for yourself, and your ex signs saying that he'll make sure you don't have to go on welfare, and if you do he has to pay it back.

Where are you from? It sounds like you haven't made a new life in Canada already, you stated that you don't even have all your things there with you. If you're still importing things like your car and haven't made connections and got a job in Canada yet, it may be best just to go back to your home country. That's harsh, I know, but without knowing more about your situation it looks like that's a pretty good option.

If you want to stay in Canada, the easiest thing to do will be to go on welfare until you can support yourself, and then your ex will have to pay it back.

Welfare should not even be an option as it is not in UK and America etc. Lets not encourage this people.

Oh Yay! We're playing my favorite game - The Self Ritcheous Dichotomy!

On one side we have all the "good" people, who are coming to Canada for the "right" reasons, and are only in "genuine" relationships. You can recognize them by the stones they are casting. Likes: passing judgements, burning torches and lynch mobs. They're a fun group.

On the other side: The "bad" people - those who were either stupid enough to fall in love with a scammer, or those who have asked a question, made a statement, or a life choice that dared to step out of the carefully crafted black and white lines drawn by the "good" people. These people are OBVIOUSLY NOT in "genuine relationships" and can are easily recognizable by the fact that they are rubbing their hands together and laughing maniacally.

;D Locolynn, I love your sarcasm!

I think some of us are jumping to conclusions and being unnecessary spiteful.
None of us can judge whether a relationship is genuine or an economic immigration in disguise. Only the person themselves knows that.

Finding a job is usually an option, going back to the home country is usually an option (depending on the country), going on welfare is a last resort if you are stuck. Welfare should not be used as revenge! That is not what welfare was meant for. You know, if sponsored people couldn't go on welfare, in some cases they would die of hunger because welfare would have been their last resort. It is because of those situations that welfare is possible for sponsored people.

Has any one died of hunger because of not been able to go on welfare in Uk, USA, Australia etc?

Just to let everyone know, i'm not being harsh or anything in my comments. I just put myself in the sponsor's shoes, because I am sponsoring my husband too and i would be so devestated if he tried to collect welfare from the government because our marriage only lasted a couple of weeks ::). Even if the marriage doesn't work out an individual has options, they should try to find employment first before thinking about going after the sponsor or collecting welfare. By a sponsored person going on welfare that jeoprodizes the sponsor's abiltiy to sponsor anyone else in the future and will put the sponsor in default with the government.
If any women is in a abusive relationship, there are shelters they can go to, they will put a roof over your head and feed you and offer you assistance in finding employment etc...
One other thing, why would any one think about importing there car in this type of situation?? Do you know the cost of insurance and maintenance for a car?? Why don't you first think about the necessities before material things??Better yet, why don't you have a family member sell your car for you back home and send you the money via western union? I'm sure that money can help you, and in the meantime you can take public transportation Hmmm? just a thought...

I just want to say there is alot of great points here and I agree with them all but where is fafi? this question is about fafi and he/she hasn't come back to state their story so someone can honestly help or not and state an opinion that actually applies to his her situation. But if he/she has a car to ship here I think they should sell it to live on until they find a job it's what canadians have to do before social services helps us and I don't agree with social services anyways I am one who was in a bad relationship in the past and stood on my own two feet and worked rather than turn to this plus they don't give enough money to live on I'm not sure why anyone would want to go this route unless they absolutely need to and I know alot of people on this and none need it except the ones who are handicapped or come out of an extreme abusive relationship. I live in a very small community and even here people can get jobs they just won't work them cause they are crappy jobs so the employers have to hire foreign workers thank god for them or theese places would shut down but I'm wandering why anyone is allowed to be on social services when foreign workers are brought in.

I don't know. Do you? What a stupid question. People die on the streets of first world countries everyday, including this one.

The OP is long gone. Would you stick around?

Just have a question...have you tried to go to a shelter???? If you end up in a shelter you are expected to sign an agreement that "welfare" pays your room and board for you...when I ended up in one, I had to take a medical leave to get through with my kids, and guess what...had to sign a piece of paper stating that I agree that welfare pays for me and my kids to stay there?? And is the OP male or female is another question...because I know if they are a man, around my area, there are NO shelters for men trying to escape from domestic violence....

I do agree about selling the car, but then again, if you are in a small town, there is no such thing as public transportation...and again from personal experience, even if you are on welfare...you have the RIGHT to own a vehicle so you can look for a job....at least thats how it is on Ontario...which is where OP is from....

And 100% on the mark about using the welfare system for revenge...that is just wrong, but if you end up in a part time job where you need "top up" maybe its better than having to collect a full check...but finding a job is the #1 priority for OP in my belief...

Nope here in ns they wont let you own anything unless you are already in the system then you can have a car under 4000. dollars but that isn't the point I have to agree with alot on here after 3 weeks something doesn't add up I can't help what I am thinking. Another thing I hear alot of people talking about sending money to their spouse they are immigrating here why?? I never gave one dollar to my husband, he wouldn't dare ask me for any money he was raised right.

This new law coming in effect by year end which is only less than 2 months is great!!! I love it 2 years before they get permanent residency and if the couple split the sponsered spouse can't sponser anyone for 5 years so if someone from another country married to just get here they have to stay for two years in the marriage and if it's not love it won't happen for two years this is canada then this person can't laugh and marry from their country and bring them here they have to wait for 5 years which i think is the best part of the process. This will cut down on scamming so us good marriages won't suffer.

I sent some money to my husband (then boyfriend) because he was a student and he had trouble affording a ticket to come visit me. I had a good job back then, so I paid for most of his ticket. I also paid for a lot of things while he was visiting me because I could afford them better than he could.
The situation has turned around now; I am not a PR yet, so I have to financially depend on my husband right now because I'm not allowed to work.
We feel that mutually depending on each other is a good thing, because our relationship is well balanced. We discuss money frequently and make decisions together.

Having said that, I do think it is a good thing be really careful and think about it well before sending someone money, especially if you don't know them that well. Be extra careful if he/she just wants more and more, or if you have to pay for his/her family members' expenses as well.

You are the one with stupid believe that someone can die of hunger . You started it and I only asked a question. If only you can open your myopic view because if the OP is gone, does it mean the discussion should die off?

No, absolutely not. This is a good discussion.

From time to time, I always see people begging for food (sometimes with their dog). Maybe this is one of the reasons why Canada is less prosperous than Hong Kong and Singapore.

If you wish to continue living in Canada do what the rest of us do, get a job. Nobody should be responsible for you but you. I'm sorry, but that's how life is. Instead of spending all that time trying to get your spouse to pay for you, spend that time looking for work. Then you'll be able to pay your bills with dignity without looking like you came here via 'fake' marriage. Even if the marriage was legit, it does look suspicious and I don't blame others for getting upset over this. Everyone is trying so hard to prove themselves able to come to Canada. I beg you to do the same.

People don't die of hunger? What planet are you from? I didn't say you were stupid. I said your questions was stupid. And I still think it is. Oh well.

You are calling me myopic? Yet you are making statements that are completely lacking tolerance or understanding by making the OP the "bad" person without asking a single question about their circumstances but immediately jumping to judgment. And I'm myopic. Yeah, right.

I also didn't say the discussion should die. A previous poster asked where the OP was. I was answering.
