Can someone please tell me what rukhsati is? I stay in Hyderabad, India, and havent really seen many of those. Yes we do have cases where the nikah is done and after some time (could be months or years) the valima takes place. Does rukhsati mean the valima? Or maybe we have a different name here for it. Just curious. Thanks! :)

Ruksati is a spiritual act of two souls not soles meeting in heavens, angels shower their blessings on you .......... on that auspecious day the bride's family depart her but then from the back door she has to return home because embassy wont give her visa for approximately 24 months ..............this holy event is closely monitored by our super intellectuals desi's working at CHC-ISB by sightseeing the rukhsati pictures over a cup of tea, goras are also invited and then all of them see the angels in watermarks on those pictures ........... without this watchful and mindful or mindless if I could say "incidence" if not an EVENT, the marriage is not considered complete .......... CHC-ISB staff has been obsesed with making sure that all the girls get some personal time with their husbands before the spouses depart to Canada ......... and without rukhsati that cannot be promised .......... rukhsati is a bond that unites two worlds which are set apart by few oceans and mind numbing 12000 km and you know what two worlds i am talking about ........ you can just have a nikkah and ruksati and you are still geniune marriage.......... otherwise they will have your babies attend your ruksati ........ rukhsati is an emotionally charged, financially economical, procedurally required, morally needed and physically compentent life saving or threatning event ............ ok I gotta go back to work now

Yep you are right and it is also consummation of marriage which is one of the important issue for VO verifying marriage genuineness

Ok thanks! Its called Vidaai down here :)

No wonder the VOs want a rukhsati! Because a marriage is just not complete without the valima...I kinda guessed it had to do with living with your in-laws, but wondered what the big deal about it was anyway...

Hahahahahaha!! LOL!! Totally enjoyed your rant! :P

You seem single-mindedly opposed to the idea of CHC-induced rukhsati. Dare I ask if you had your Rukhsati done, without having my head bitten off? :P

I am part of waiting game but I am not in the game I am a football and I insiste on the word FOOT

They have not opened my file yet ........... they cant dislike it because it was written like a love story with ideas stolen from Holly-Lolly and Bollywood ........ to regale them ..........

the purpose of Canadian "Mission" as they like to call it in Pakistan called High Commission ........is to make sure we all pray to God ........ making us better muslims ........ Subhan-allah ......... and thank you Jason Kenney you are a great muslim

anyone send the link of supplementary form they request in letter.

Nope, it's not popular in Pakistan but many prefer this when the wedding is done with a non-resident specially the parents of the bride as they do not want a nawasa/nawasi without the bride's husband being with her to support her emotionally and be there for the birth of the kid.

Also, trust is another issue, what if the guy does full shadi and never returns? or what if the immigration does not work out and he send out a divorce (God forbid) + considering other suspicions + fikermand rishteydars and their microscopic monitoring of the husband’s character = Nikah seems like a smart solution....she is married yet not married... :P
