Canadian Bar Association Requests Apology for Chris Alexander's Disrespectful Comments

Which will probably be completely ignored... Once again, they throw in this word "unconstitutional" which may be sufficient to for the Cons to just dismiss them as "troublemakers".
Personally, I suspect that the people that drafted this Bill have been over it with a very fine-toothed legal comb, just to ensure that it WILL stand up in Court. They are, after all, not complete novices at drafting legislation....

Third reading first thing in the morning today??? :o

Cons. MP name Joe Daniel from Don Velley ON (looks like a Asian origin and anti-immigrant and I think he may have gained is citizenship through the process of same as others) is giving his lecture in favour of bill. This guy is speaking something very scary.. He is telling all kind of negative issues..

Another MP from QC name Irwin Cotler is an expert on human rights and legal matter speaking on opposing the nos. of clauses in the bill which will violate constitution and accusing Minister drafting such un-constitutional bill like this..

But the discussion on C-24 finished now it was up to 11am. Nothing happened just few MPs was discussing on the committee reports. Few are favouring and few are strongly opposing. Will have to check again Monday if anything new develops...

Bill C-24 is simply a summary of the conservatives racism against newcomers to Canada but they forget that themselves were immigrants too at one point.

Sure, they are so racist that they have increased immigration levels and new citizenship grants to levels that exceed any other government in Canadian history. That makes sense.

When they arrive, they are all liberal and left-leaning, but the minute they get their citizenship they become conservative. It is not about ideology, but their perception of self-interest :)

Dani13,

Yet again, it is a classic case of a few people who abused the system and thousands of others paying the price ! Then there was all this overzealous application of somewhat fascist and rigid rules ad infinitum - like the RQ fiasco which was so overdone I think CIC was likely swimming in rooms with tons of papers.

Meanwhile, all those people who got citizenship in laxer times are happily traveling the globe and doing their thing - as any native Canadian might with the right to do as they choose.

But, the damage was done and it is - paradoxically - the ones who come later that pay for the egregious mistakes of the few. Don't you almost want to throw rotten eggs at that other group who screwed it up for everybody !

I think it's actually a sign of a broken system.

If you have no intent to reside in Canada, WTH are you doing with PERMANENT residency papers?

If your only intent is to gain citizenship so you can travel the world (and reside somewhere other than Canada) with a different passport... you're abusing the system and causing the delays that we're all complaining about.

Seriously: 2-3 years to process a 7-page document? How is it that my 20+ page income tax return could be processed in less than a month, TEN YEARS AGO, but we can't see a 7-page thing (a great deal of which is check-boxes) processed in fewer than 6 months?

The system is broken -- and one easy way to fix it is to weed out those who don't deserve to be applying in the first place.

Tolerance you raise a very good point. More and more studies are pointing out that the group of Canadian's that have the most to gain from a more restrictive immigration policy are new immigrants.

Not directly related but read this this morning. http://qz.com/148688/hong-kongs-labor-shortage-means-140-per-day-construction-workers-waiters-with-great-benefits/
