True - for those that apply after C-24 becomes effective.

What about those who have already applied.... are they subject to the intent-to-reside clause? I don't think so.

Hi ,

I just spoke to a CIC agent , although she didn't say anything concrete about the in effect date of C-24 ,
however she did mention that most probably CIC will take into consideration those people who are very near to complete their residency requirements .

I understand that its hard to establish a conclusion based on this info , however I really hope that there will be a transitionary period between the bill becoming a law and its in effect date .

The question now becomes, is it enough to reside in Canada during the processing of the application to prove intent-to-reside, or will they investigate further?

intend to reside only applies during the citizenship process, till the date of oath. the pattern of residency between the oath will be tracked to check if one intends to reside in canada.

if CIC says it won't why are we banging our heads to the wall about it. that's like saying people with only one citizenship are free to perform any crime around the world and still be a canadian citizen.
