I don't think it's wise to interact with someone who reads something on Toronto Star and then takes it as fact. That would be a fantastic waste of time.sicko86 said:Please stop posting unreasonable posts just to scare people who are not familiar with this issue.
There is no way in Hell this will pass by June 27th .. it didnt even pass the house of common yet and it still has to go though 3 Senate Reading and Commitee Reviews .. do you think the Canadian Parliament is a Joke? And even if it passed (Which is impossible in that short time left) .. the Law wont be effective immediately .
Yes.. it could be around 50 to 55k..chakrab said:in 2013, over 330,000 applications for citizenship were made to CIC. so that would make a bit more than 50,000 in 2 months.

I don't want that to become a statutory requirement, so no, it doesn't piss me off. I've no idea why you thought it would, except that you seem to be projecting.marcus66502 said:I'm not going to pick on what you've said but I do want to emphasize that you should not be talking about Canadian values as if it's a set of rules like the seven commandments etched in stone. No such thing exists, despite what you read in government-published leaflets for the general immigrant population.
Values will vary from person to person and since they're subjective by their very nature, you have no standing to say that your values are in any way superior to mine. Excuse me for feeling I don't have much in common people in my community, or for not feeling I should get involved outside my home (donate, volunteer or whatever you imagine). It's not any of these that make me a citizen. It's not what others think of me that makes me a citizen. It's the legal status that will be granted to me by the government.
The law is where the power is, not people's opinions. And if the law says three years of residence makes me good enough to apply for citizenship, then so it shall be. I am not required to agree with your view of a 'Canadian' lifestyle in order to meet the law's requirements for citizenship (much as that pisses you off).
Yes it was passed, the bill page is now up to date in the parliament website.MWM said:Did they passed third reading or still ? as there is nothing on the website !!! plus also I don't think that it will be passed this this session also I think will be after summer , plus there is a lot of a push against it ... don't you agree with me that since a week ago we went through slow motion ?
Hello Guys, When is Bill C-24 Second Reading in the Senate?MWM said:C-24 An Act to amend the Citizenship Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts
Short Title
Strengthening Canadian Citizenship Act
Sponsor
Minister of Citizenship and Immigration
Last Stage Completed
First Reading in the Senate (2014-06-16)
Progress:
Still unlikely .. Second reading is the big stage usually requires couple of setting to pass it (not like First Reading). Also there is a commitee review after this before moving to third reading then a Royal Assent.taleodor said:Here is the article in Toronto Star, btw: http://www.thestar.com/opinion/commentary/2014/06/16/bill_c24_would_undermine_rights_to_citizenship.html
It's not mentioning any dates. Though, it seems quite realistic now that the bill would make it through the Senate before the summer break. Even though my bet was initially on September.
BTW, last guy to go nuts against The Star was Rob Ford. I believe, you know the story...
