Friends, With all due respect, no offense intended! Please be polite to each other, the Canadian way! Don't forget we are all aboard the same boat.

CIC has lost many files. You can read alot about this case in this forum.
My wisdom demands to trust the CIC, I believe they are not running a lousy system to process client applications. This is a Govt. machinery, unfortunately like anything Govt. this grinds very slow. So patience is important and the only way to go.
As you said many people reported lost files here in this forum, including some CIC agent's suggestions to re-send a second application.
I look into this scenario in a different way. Just imagine tons of applications waiting to process after initial scrutiny, incomplete files returned, waiting to enter into computer system. Remember, nothing is entered into any computer or no file no.s created. Even call center agents will not be able track it. Are they going to browse through the pile up just because you call them to check? Definitely NO. Some agents will say I can't see anything here, others say it is too early, some others will just read the script "24 months is the standard processing time for 80% applications" etc.etc. This does not mean that they have not received it, it just means that it has not been entered into their system yet. If you keep bothering they will turn the table to you and suggest to send another application so that you will not eat their head again!!! That is how it goes!
For my educated guess I have seen most of the cases who earlier reported missing files, received AOR later (see my next post below), though sometimes a bit late ; mostly after sending the second application in hurry.
They have tons of applications to process and will only answer your questions if it's serious. I believe it is hard to miss any applications once inside CIC; and would rather disbelieve the courier guys, not CIC if the application is missing. They don't like people calling them every day because they are busy. i.e. why they said it in advance here:
Note that you will not be able to view the status of your application through Client Application Status (CAS) until the visa office or case processing centre to which you sent your application begins processing it. Please do not contact the Call Centre—or, if you applied from outside Canada, the Canadian embassy, high commission or consulate overseas—regarding any application unless the standard application processing time has passed.
Again here:
The table below shows the processing time from receipt of application to final decision for 80% of cases processed between July 1, 2013 and June 30, 2014:
Routine citizenship applications
24 months
Non-routine citizenship applications
35 months
Once you receive your acknowledgment letter, you can also check your file's status online.
Note: If it has been longer than the time shown above since you applied and you need more information, please contact the Call Centre.
