I work for one of the Big 5 Canadian Banks in a retail environment - I know for a fact that CIBC Visa Debit didn't work for a client on CIC (not sure what they were paying for though). Also, Visa Debit is not the same as a regular Visa - the merchant has to work it with their payment processor...
