is it worthwhile hiring a lawyer or paralegal for common-law sponsorship?

No, not unless you have a complex case, or maybe you have a lot of money to burn and you just cant be bothered or have the time to do it yourself.

    MMR Vaccine

I'm pretty sure this isn't a requirement, but it is a good idea to have it. I would put $$ on it that you won't be asked for it but you may as well have it on hand when in land to give yourself peace of mind.

    New Zealand PCC

That is an excessive time but the hold up maybe the Sydney office not the NZ certificate or both. As Taffy7 has stated the certificates are quite quick, but I did order one a while back for something else and that never arrived, they lost my application. Came within a week when reordered. You...

Proof of Common Law Relationship - It's complicated

Since your lease shows you have lived together 10 months already, why don't you wait just 2 more before sending your application? In the long run it may save you time and make your waiting time less nerve wreaking. The more solid your application the faster it will go.

    helpp!!

If you are applying Outland (which you should if you are a US Citizen, it is quite likely 6 months will be long enough. You can ask for more, just don't apply inland.

    EBOLA

You are correct, that is what I thought I was saying, I must have missed the last sentence I meant to write which would be, "as long as they have not been the the affected countries over the last 3 months" Although that would have been slightly incorrect, because it will be the 3 months before...

    EBOLA

There is more information if you click on the link in the article, or here http://gazette.gc.ca/rp-pr/p1/2014/2014-10-31-x8/html/extra8-eng.php. I read it as they will not accept new applications from any one who has been in the area in the previous 3 months. They will continue processing...

    EBOLA

One article I read said from countries where Ebola was "widespread", it is only my assumption but I would assume that would just be the 3 most affected countries. Edit: This is the exact wording "For the purpose of these Instructions, “Ebola affected country” shall refer to countries...

Thread For applications Through SYDNEY (AUSTRALIA) Office

NZ has multiple levels of police certificate you can obtain, CIC must only accept one version, that is why they have explained on their website to include the concent to obtain form not the actual police certificate. I don't totally understand what you are questioning here. If CIC have asked...

Sponsorship refused - Owing money from previous sponsorship

I read a post on here by another member who was in the same situation, they continued with their application and it was denied. I think you need to withdraw your application and start again. Because you were in default at the time of applying your sponsor is not eligible. Withdraw, pay $$ and...

Family Sponsorship & extending my work permit

I agree that withdrawing your application makes the most sense, but just so you know all the facts. You may not get your physical application back for quite a few months, so take that into account when you make your decision. You will have to collect all evidence again unless you took a copy.

    Document Translation cost

Sorry I cant answer any of your questions, but I imagine others will have difficulty answering where it is cheaper unless you provide your home country and/or language that is being translated.

    JULY 2014 OUTLAND APPLICATIONS!

I have read cases where people have got off the phone from CIC being told something very similar to you, and within an hour have their SA. I believe that is the standard answer they give people because those that answer the phone actually have quite limited information so they have to give...

It means AIP. My last post about your OWP being denied may have been incorrect if you labelled it as they have stated.

Family Sponsorship & extending my work permit

The OWP makes no difference. Even if you had sent it you would not get implied status due to IEC being extendable work permits. If you continue to work it will be completely at your risk and if you are found to be working then you have major issues, your choice. Once you get through stage 1...

Family Sponsorship & extending my work permit

Just as you have found that different people at the call centre are incorrect with their advise, the same can be said with people on this forum. Before you decide to follow any advise, I suggest you do some research. One way is to look at peoples ratings, when they have significantly more...

Family Sponsorship & extending my work permit

Just a side note if you choose to change to Outland, I'm not sure if the NZ police check is one that causes you headaches but you don't get the actual certificate from NZ you just send in permission for CIC to obtain it on your behalf. Form is on CIC website, I am on my phone so can't post...
