Can a current Ph.D student on student permit in Canada apply for express entry?

You won't be able to use your PhD until it's been awarded (that means until you've written up, completed your viva and actually have the certificate/transcript in your hand). Until then you'll need to use your highest education (presumably bachelors or masters?). If you still come underneath the...

Ray of Hope - 45th Draw

As far as I'm aware, the only changes that have been tabled are contained in this document: https://c.ymcdn.com/sites/www.cerc.ca/resource/resmgr/government_relations/Express_entry_national_stake.pdf

FSW Program: Teaching Assistant whilst PhD/MPhil student?

I expect that I will be able to as my partner's work experience closely matches NOC 4012 (teaching assistant). My main concern was him being paid by stipend rather than an acutal "salary". Money is paid to him for the work but it is not taxed.

I would wait patiently. Even when your score goes down, 477 is a great score. The changes in EE will be coming in no more than a few weeks and I am optimistic from what I've heard and read that the changes will benefit those with high human capital scores like yours.

Express entry profile rejected - Poct doc in Canada

I don't think that's the issue. The Come to Canada wizard is a simple tool that checks to see which streams you are eligible for (you're eligible for FSW) and then checks you have met the minimum requirements and you have enough points. You've definitely got enough points. You have enough money...

Express entry profile rejected - Poct doc in Canada

I just completed the Come to Canada tool with details exactly as you have written in this thread and it told me that you are eligible for Express Entry. Not sure where it's going wrong your end... Did you choose "yes" to the question about having a job offer?

Express entry profile rejected - Poct doc in Canada

How much money are you bringing to Canada and how many people are there in your family? As you're applying under FSW you require funds unless you have an LMIA backed job offer. I'm not sure your current employment counts... http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/offer.asp - Job offer...

    EXPRESS ENTRY DRAW #44 - OCT 12, 2016 // 1,518 ITAs // 484 CRS

As far as I'm aware, there is no quota for LMIAs. There is an overall cap on immigration of circa 300,000 but I don't think CIC cares whether these immigrants have LMIAs or not. As long as they meet the required CRS score, CIC will invite them to apply. There is data available on how many PNP...

Express entry profile rejected - Poct doc in Canada

On the face of it you should be eligible for FSW. You would select NOC 4012 at the moment as that is the job in which you have two years experience. As long as your ECA is less than five years old, you sat the IELTS General Training (not academic) and it is less than two years old you should be...

They are trying to attract the right type of applicants remember. So FSW or CEC who are going to work at McDonald's as a fast food supervisor who currently has one year college education, average IELTS and is in their 20's is getting 900+ points because they can get LMIA. I expect that scores...

    44 Draw// October 12, 2016 // 484 points // 1518 Invites

I'm not sure I follow the logic here. You're saying that if the next draw is for 2000 people that the required CRS score will go down to 409? You should probably take a look at this: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/reports/ee-year-end-2015.asp There has never been a draw under 450. 10...

    EXPRESS ENTRY DRAW #44 - OCT 12, 2016 // 1,518 ITAs // 484 CRS

Although I disagree that there is no need to bring in people for $13 an hour jobs (I've read articles of places such as Tim Horton's finding it difficult to attract Canadian workers), I'd say that the whole idea of EE was to bring in the brightest and best candidates from around the world. That...

    EXPRESS ENTRY DRAW #44 - OCT 12, 2016 // 1,518 ITAs // 484 CRS

Students pay for an education. Not for permanent residency. Just because you were/are a Canadian student does not automatically entitle you to permanent residency. That being said, the government are well aware that international students are a good target for immigration due to their age...

    EXPRESS ENTRY DRAW #44 - OCT 12, 2016 // 1,518 ITAs // 484 CRS

What a lot of nonsese. Although it is true that CIC could publish more data (and I'm sure we'd all like them to), the fact is that there is already a lot of data available which they didn't have to publish for us to go through. The process by which you are eligible or not is clear and the...

Using foreign PhD as work experience

    EXPRESS ENTRY DRAW #44 - OCT 12, 2016 // 1,518 ITAs // 484 CRS

Finally, some common sense. CIC are looking for 54,000-58,400 immigrants through FSW in 2016. That is what determines how many ITAs they will give out. They do not care about the score of the lowest invited candidate, they are only concerned with the number of ITAs (and consequently PRs) issued...
