Wait, what is rude and unpleasant? Is it my query that you are referring to? I hope not so lol..

Anyways, I am going to go with what @abbas.pasha has advised me as that makes more sense should the situation arise. That way it doesn't show "unemployed" in my lifetime document. :p
i was referring to selecting 'unemployed'. query kyu hogi unpleasant.

Yes, the marriage cert had her maiden name, as is almost always the case. They accepted the marriage cert. But they said we should have answered NO to the question whether name was ever changed.
They re-did the form and we got the OCI in hand in about 6.5 weeks.
Does not make any sense!

marr cert - guess what, in my case (Delhi Govt system generated) the certificate didn't state my wife's maiden name! so it was like wife kapoor marrying husband kapoor, whereas wife kapoor was wife chopra before the marriage!

all the best!
Thank you! I will update once everything goes smoothly!

It does not make sense and it is not consistent with how Indian Passport Seva defines name changes for women , but this is how based on ours and others experience BLS usually handles this question for OCI. We tried the truer sensible answer YES originally and ended up wasting half an hour to have them re-do the form to change the answer to NO for 26 dollars ( it was an in-person appointment),
The BLS official said 99% of Indian women change surname after marriage , but if last held Indian Passport and Canadian documentation has the surname after marriage they do not consider that a name change occurred for OCI application purposes. Again, based on most peoples recommendation and experience ( @abbas.pasha et al ), I would recommend answering NO.

Around your OCI application if you are still in between jobs, I would suggest to draft a self declaration letter explaining your situation with a brief of your previous role(start end date, position etc)
Can you clarify what one would ideally fill for other fields if going with this then?

I suppose the big concern is not having Unemployed printed on the OCI card. So should one select "Professional" and then in Address of employer as "Unemployed" and followed by a letter attached explaining our situation and other things?
( i was thinking of doing it like this because of people confirming this worked for them in this other thread - https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/threads/oci-employment-proof.729963/post-10709760)

How are you planning to fill in the details for the same?

Everyone, mostly on this forum, has gone through the lengthy Canadian immigration process to reach at OCI application stage. Numerous forms whether it’s PNP/ CEC/ PR or Canadian citizenship application/ Canadian passport application- have been filled and submitted by the applicants here successfully to IRCC

But tell me honestly one thing, why is this OCI application form and process seems so sooooooo enigmatic, mysterious , treacherous, super natural, arduous , daunting hehe ….u can put any adverb of your choice based on your experience :)

Thanks BLS for making this OCI application form process soooooooo user friendly that we as applicants think thrice or n number of times where n can be infinity…..before putting even a single letter or dot on the application form.

The application process or form which could’ve been a cakewalk for the applicants….who have been dealing IRCC forms for the past 4-5 years of their life…..but thanks to BLS and its dollar friendly correction services…..applicants are busy in doing a thesis on OCI application form and it’s answers….and making this OCI thread around 1600 pages strong :)

Its upon the sole discretion of the person sitting across the counter at that time of the day
I can also suggest is to keep 2 OCI forms, one with the option I mentioned in my previous post and the other one as per the link you shared...
Give them your fresh breath of air when they confront ;)

I think this makes sense as well. However, I will also draft a letter of explanation and if possible an employment letter from my most recent employer as the employment gap wouldn't be much higher from the end of my contract to the OCI application. This is really just to avoid any potential gaps in the application and possibility of rejection (heard the BLS/Consulate is notorious for this).

My post here got approved this morning, but I already had my appointment today. I did what abbas also suggested. Had created 2 applications. One like what the link in my post said, and the other with Address of my old employer. I didn't need the second application as nobody raised eyes on the first one, so it went through fine. Now hoping there aren't any issues in the processing at the consulate.

Got OCI this morning. Full timeline and notes

Applied : 25 April ( Toronto location )
Acknowledged: 2 May
Processed : 28th May
Dispatched: 29th May
Arrived at Toronto: (No update on OCI website)
Even on BLS website till 5th June, "still processing at consulate"

SMS alert with Purolator ID: 6 June evening
Delivered on door step: 7 June morning

I also approved a "signature release/waiver" request on the Purolator website so that they won't put that stupid we missed you, oops, now come to a faraway location at 6 pm to pick it up crap.
Hi
I did not even get any message from purulotor and the traching thing showing like delivered. honestly is this ok after paying $62 for shipping? Why am i struggling when i am applying somthing related to surrender passports and oci THROUGH INDIAN SERVICES but not my PNP, PR, CITIZENSHIP AND CANADIAN PASSPORTS. Its really a lot of stress in filling and submitting or shipping services with BLS. applications were returned several time or returned from walkin appointments. Honestly i am really exausted with all these.

Hello guys, i am just starting to fill my OCI application as single adult. I have few doubts and would appreciate if anyone through some light..
1-sory for me sounding dumb, but when uploading the documents online, like Indian passport, surrender certificate, certificate of citizenship , we don't need to self attest it right ..it's already original..I think i had some confusion there , self attested docs copies go with hard copy postal application only right?
2- I am not employed now , so I am uploading letter of explanation...is it okay or not required
3- when completing professional details i selected others and then unemployed in box below...but what should I put in employer number as it's mandatory? I can't leave it blank ! Can I put my number or just 00---
4- as I am doing walk-in application , do I still need to self attest the copies or it's not required

Perfect answer! I will fill our forms the same way then.
