Yesterday I fell down on ice and snow when I was walking..... :'(

You need to get good winter boots or one of those traction cleats that you put on your shoes. But be careful when you enter the malls, or just take it off.

Last winter, I made the mistake of wearing them into a mall here (which has those big shiny tiles), and almost slipped and fell.

Thank you , Shells

My DH gave me a GPS (Garmin) map for my car for Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!! 8)

My dad brought his Garmin to Ontario and it said Canada only had two provinces: BC and Alberta. lol
I found it funny, he was less than amused for the unnecessary international phone call to me for directions.

I believe you can go for lifetime unlimited updates for $89. It's pretty cheap considering the amount of time and confusion you will save yourself from.

I like your optimism! :-) I'll try and remember that when I feel that winter is dragging on...

Oh Tortoise! :( sorry that happened... my hubby got mine in Ontario Canada, hopefully all the other provinces are loaded into it, I've only gone to Ontario...haven't tried it for other provinces! That's terrible!

I was dreading winter (negative) all last summer for some reason, so I guess now I'm making up for it in the reverse, lol.

Still waiting for my Visa and in the meantime trying to wrap my head around the idea of winter and snow. My husband suggested I read through this thread. He lives in Edmonton and with me coming from sunny Kenya he is worried about how well i will adapt to the cold. Every time I show him my trench coat he gives a sympathetic look and tells me that it will not work. Reading the stories here, I wonder what kind of stories I will tell :o :o :o

But at least I know others have done it and made it just fine.

Eh heh heh.... I'm from an area that gets snow and I wouldn't live in Edmonton! Summer 2011, they had snowpiles until August!

Winter in the Toronto area has been easy and fun so far but the wind is the worst! SO COLD! My hubby said it hasn't been near as bad as he expected. I hope Jan and Feb aren't too hard on him. I think he pictured Edmonton weather though. BRRRR! We have family there and their pictures are crazy!

hehehe.. I'm originally from Singapore, we can walk around all day and night in shorts, tee shirts and sandals - all year round. I even lived in San Francisco for 9 months (which is much colder than Singapore too) prior coming to Vancouver. During my first summer in Vancouver.. all my classmates were complaining how warm it was in the classrooms, and I was still wearing those hoodie sweaters. :P They thought I was mad.

grin, I think much of this article is fairly accurate (including comments about our attitudes & platitudes):

here is one of the local news stories from that day:

Don't worry Darrppy78, we'll keep each other warm :)
