Depends really how familiar you are with the english language. Some are better with speaking and listening than writing and reading English. As for me, I got lowest in speaking since I don't exactly use it every day...and I sort of got into a debate with my interviewer (but he was generous enough to give me a 7.5 lol) but for the rest if you're used to taking classes in English, writing papers etc. it shouldn't be that difficult. :) Also its good to review and get familiar with the exam, especially the listening and reading parts. Like any exam it should be answered in a certain way. Also, some of the questions are vague so it's also good to be familiar with the kind of answers IELTS are looking.

They have this section where they post exam questions from recent exams all over the world. :)

hope this helps!

I would suggest for you to practice writing while timing yourself. What I did was ask anybody a topic and then I started writing down something about it. Try to remember that what they're looking for is sentence construction and coherence and not the actual fact about the topic.

I have to say writing.
Practice writing a couple of letters such as the ones suggested in studying materials (I used Barron's), perhaps a complaint letter or a kudos letter to the editor of a magazine you really enjoy. Before starting to write, spend 2 or 3 minutes making a brief outline with items you want to talk about. This way, you have a plan and don't have to improvise as you write.
Good luck!

In my opinion, Listening and Writing are the ones everybody should take care.

And do not worry to get maximum score. CIC min. requirements to get full score in English language is: L:7.5, R:6.5, W:6.5 and S:6.5.

So, writing will be easy to get 6.5 if you spent enough time in practicing. And coming to listening, it all depends on that day, so try to listen very careful and answer.

Overall, its easy to get 6.5 but for listening, you gotta have some luck to get 7.5 to score max. points in English.

All the best to all.

Hi Nevil.

I did the IELTS exam in the UAE last year. During the listening session, the excerpts will be played on a tape recorder in the exam hall.

Drea

@nevilraval: In India they will play CD, only one time to all and give individual wireless headphones to each and every member in hall.

In the listening test, do you have the questions in front of you when the recording is being played? I am trying to understand whether the questions will be handed over to the candidate after the recording has been played? Please advise.

The questions will be in the candidate's hands before they play the recorder.

basic question :)

Do we need to answer all sections including essay with pencil or pen in answer sheet?

Hi guys,
I just wanted to know which part of the IELTS test was the most difficult part to you.
Please share your experience.
Thank you. :)
Mike

LISTENING ..... YOU REALLY NEED TO BE FOCUSED. ACTUALLY I AM RE-TAKING THE EXAM ON OCTOBER, I NEED 16 ONLY GOT 12.

LISTENING ........ NEED TO BE REALLY FOCUSED. WRITING AND SPEAKING IS THE EASIEST. READING IS OK. FOR SKILLED WORKER APPLICATION TAKING THE GENERAL TYPE IS ENOUGH.....

IELTS tips

First:- Those who plan for writing IELTS, first learn the exam pattern and suggest to read "ACE The IELTS" book, you will get familiar with all the traps and then start practicing so that you cant learn by experience since you already aware of the traps from the book. If you not get 100% marks from the practice test, make a note of it learn from that and make sure it shouldn't repeat it for next test.

Listening: Normally easy but sometimes its tricky, they will use simple English but they use synonyms sometimes, by the time you know the answer you will miss the next question.

Reading: If you practice and learn the traps then this is easy. skimming should be fast.

Writing: If you English is average, then you need to practice, write different essay's (for ex:- agree, disagree, suggestion etc., ). you can memorize some of the few phrases(of course you should know the meaning of it) and use it you in your practice essays. Learn how to get ideas on a specific topic so that your job will be easy.

speaking: If you frame the paragraphs and just follow it in your practice then you will be done. Practice with your friends.

Most of the questions should be related to you(if you are student its related to studies, if you are working they will ask related to work(for ex:- job application in essays etc.,).
