Hello, i'm hoping I can get some info on this topic
My wife's visitor visa will expire in may. We have already applied for outland application in July of last year and I have already been approved as a sponsor. I would like to extend her visitors visa so she can stay with me until the paperwork is finished. Do we ask them how much time we need extended?| which documents should I send to extend her stay? pay stubs from work? a copy of my cic sponsor paper?

See: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/extend/visa.asp everything you need is there.
Look at the processing time for the office which is processing the application and request that amount of time plus about 2 months.

You don't need the actual extension approval before May 11. All you need to do is submit the visa extension application before May 11. Once it is submitted your wife has implied status to remain in Canada until the extension application is processed. So, if you can submit a paper application before that date, you'll be fine. It's best to use a courier or some method of delivery that provides you with proof of delivery, so you can prove the application was submitted before May 11. Good luck.

Thanks for the info...I got a few more questions about the forms to extend the visa. My wife filled out that Find out if you're eligible to apply. After she was finished she was given a checklist to do. It said she needs proof of a medical exam she sent that information when we sent our papers to do the sponsorship so we don't have that right now. Do we need that to extend her visa? also, was asking her for some photos. She sent those along with our papers. Do she have to send those again? I hope to send these papers soon so any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

If I were you I'd do the paper application. AS PMM said, you can find that here; http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/visitor.asp

Follow that checklist. No medical is required. I don't think you need photos either, at least I don't see them on the checklist. Send it all in by UPS or some method that gives you proof of delivery.

Don't worry about determining whether your wife is eligible to apply. You're applying to extend an existing visitor's visa. You don't need to determine your eligibility. Just complete all the forms in the above link.

I don't recall sending any photos and we certainly didn't send any proof of medical. If you quote your wife's UCI number and PR application file number, they should be able to see that she's done her medical in their system.

Asking for a year is fine. That's what we asked for and it was granted. Include information about how she will be able to support herself and has a place to live. Explain that she wants to continue visiting with you while her PR application is being processed and you should be fine.

Suggest that do it online. much quicker and easier.
make sure you have a solid write up to explain the reason for the extension. Be realistic and honest.

Online is fine too (except for the confusing online forms), but it makes little difference since once you file the extension application your visitors status is extended automatically anyway. Speed really doesn't matter at that point.

I've decided to do the application online because I need a faster response because she will have to change her flight in june. I see online you have to follow the checklist code. It says in supporting documents they need proof of medical and photos we sent that information when we applied. Can anyone who extended online maybe tell me if they had to send that and also what else to send. It is more confusing to do it online I think paper would be easier to do.

application of tourist visa for spouse

Hi there, good day! I am a Filipina and recently got married to a Canadian (Filipino) last august. He is now back in British Columbia. Can I go there as tourist and do the application for spouse visa there? and consequently, wait there, too. Please give me some enlightenment. Lots of thanks. Momsie

If you can get a visitor visa then yes you can. You will have to apply for a visitor visa and see if they give it to you. (i dont know the chances of that).

If you cant get a visitor visa, then he can sponsor you as an Outland applicant, which means you stay in Philipines until the PR is granted.

A related question:

My wife's open work permit expires July 2nd, 2014. We will be submitting our spousal application (Outland) in the next couple of days. Since her work permit is expiring, would she need to change her status to visitor? She's from a country that does not need a VISA to visit Canada. Could she just stay here for 6 months after July 2nd, then go to the US border, then re-enter?

Thanks
