It really depends.

Often wait times at the emergency rooms are long, especially if you go there for something that the triage nurse determines isn't severe and puts more severe people ahead of you in the queue.
There are walk-in clinics with shorter wait times, I've babysat children and when they needed urgent but not overly complicated medical care I've simply called their pediatrician and they take them in right away.

It really depends on what you are going to the ER for, how many other people are there - consider time of day/night, season, etc. You just never know.

Maybe growing up in Ontario I'm somewhat used to longer wait times, and I know there are lots of complaints about wait times, but I don't think it is so bad.
Dear commonlawsponsor,

Thank you for this insight.
I also read that Canadian government working on improvements.

Cheers!

Dear all:

I am from skill worker forum :p does anybody have my answers here?it would be helpful..

My spouse is going to Vienna next week to get our visa,I have 2 questions:
-as I am main applicant ,does he need any authorization from me??if yes is there any official form for it??
-if he submit the passports early morning when exactly he will get them back ?in a same day or more days??

thnx in advanced.. :)
You can email them and ask them but why the trip? why not use a VAC office?

Dear friends,

I think family stream is right place to ask this question since many of you have kids and already live in Canada.
Also I apologize about my digression from shopping to health subject :)
Me and my wife are planning to have kids once we arrive in Canada but it really concerned us information about medical practice all-over in Canada.
There is lot's of information about long hours (up to 9 [nine] hours in Ontario!?!?) waiting for emergency health care when needed.
I would like to ask you, what is your experience with little kids when you need emergency care for them?
I think it depends where you go. Here in Calgary I had to go to the ER 3 times and the shortest time I waited to see a doctor was 1.5 hours (in total I was there for 5 hours) and the longest time to see the first doctor was 6 hours (total time 8 hours). Two out of the three times I was sent there by the walk-in clinic because they said I need treatment in the hospital and even then I was sitting there for a total of 8 hours. Not very nice with a fever of over 40 degrees...

Many people I know go to the ER because of a cold. So they take the places for people who really need to see a doctor. In Calgary you can also see many homeless and drunk people who take up spaces. I know you often can check the average waiting times online at the hospitals. So you can choose the hospital with the shortest waiting times.

They say that if you finally see a doctor the care is really great. I had the feeling that they do a lot of tests to make sure that everything is fine or they find the best way to treat your illness/injury.

In Calgary and probably in other big cities as well it takes often several months to get a referral from the family physician to a specialist. Make sure you ask if they can transfer you to a doctor you want otherwise they just send you to the next available one. It might take even longer to get an appointment but at least you see the doctor you want to.

I don't know how it is with children because I don't have any ;-)

The sponsored spouse has to sign a contest form so that the sponsor has the right to request the notes and has to have a canadian address. And make sure you ask for electronic file if you ask for hard copy the will close your file and send back your apllication. It costs $5. There are a few links in the forum for requesting notes.

I have 2 kids and we went to the emergency a few times. I can only tell you from my experience, and it really depends how busy they are and how organized the hospital is. So the first time i took my son with a fractured leg we waited 6 hours, but that was about 9 years ago. I have seen a huge improvement in our local hospital since then. They created a new system how they handle patients. The most we had to wait in the last few years was about 2-3 hours in total. But of course, you won't be going to the emergency in non emergency situations and those hopefully won't be frequent.
When you find a family doctor, if you need to see them right away they will take you in the same day.
Hope that helps :)

yes this is what you want and you shouldn't ask for the physical copy. Oh and it's much faster if you request it to be emailed to you

Thank you very much for sharing your experiences.
I guess this is, in this moment, the least thing we should worry about, since there is no news from Vienna :(
Who knows how long we will wait for our visa and ultimately lend on Canadian soil.

Tnx again and good luck!

Someone went to VAC in sarajevo i think they got it back in 10 days if i remember.
Hey guys I just wanted to provide some feedback on VAC in Sarajevo.

My wife dropped off her passport last Friday, it got to Vienna on Tuesday (due to Easter) and they called her today to say that it's ready for pick up. We talked about going to Vienna for same day service but this was pretty fast and I guess that's why they didn't even offer us that in the email.

Adi777, where is the VAC in Sarajevo located? I thought they didn't have that anymore...

Also, I saw you go your Decision Made stamp in a previous post...Since you're from Sarajevo I wanted to ask you,
a lot of people do the medical after they request it, we sent my husband's medical with the application in the very beginning.
Is that going to be a problem? I mean, it says to send it, its in the required documents, but everyone sends it after it has been requested
like months and months after...

Pozdrav iz Edmontona! ;D

Hello Mrs. Stankovic,

You can wait for them to request medical but most of us assume to get it out of the way because it is valis for one year and it wont delay your process. Little did any of us think that the processing times would be 14 months when we applied so what you see is almost everyone having to redo them. According to cic if they start your application within 15 months they can extend your medical another year but thats not the case with most of us. Best thing is to do the medical as close as possible to the time you send your application.

Is it really true that it takes that long? know so many people from Bosnia,Serbia and Croatia in Calgary and Edmonton that got everything done in 6 months and some in less..
