I was just thinking (getting paranoid) about my FBI clearance. I sent my application on Tuesday, it was picked up on Wednesday so essentially it's with Mississauga but it could be like 20-60 days before AOR. My FBI clearance expires on February 4th. If they don't open my packet by then will it void the clearance?

Tiny, they want the FBI clearances to be no older than 90 days before the app was filed. Even if it doesn't get opened for another month or so, they will still know what day your application was submitted :)

Hi, Does anybody know if an applicant is eligible for OHIP (ONtario health care) while awaiting PR? We are doing an outland application but my common-law husband is here visiting with me. Is he entitled to OHIP? tks.

Usually not until he lands for Outland processing. The details on eligibility and the 3-month waiting period are at http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/public/publications/ohip/ohip_waiting_pd.aspx

Here's what the website says:
-you are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or landed immigrant, or are registered as an Indian under the Indian Act;
-you have submitted an application for permanent residence in Canada, and Citizenship and Immigration Canada has confirmed that you meet the eligibility requirements to apply for permanent residence in Canada ;

So does that mean individuals who have already landed and those who have recieved approval for permanent residency? It sounds as if you are eligible after stage one approval. Otherwise, they wouldn't have separate bullet points, am I correct?

The issue seems to be what they interpret as meeting the eligibility requirements to apply - this language is used for inland applicants and constitutes AIP.

In most other provinces a spouse living with a Canadian citizen or PR is covered as a dependent. This works in BC, AB, SK, NS and PEI.

Exactly!

To elaborate, Outland Applicants don't get an Approval in Principle (AIP), which is:

Code:
Approved in principle
    When someone meets the minimum requirements to be a permanent resident, and has received a positive stage one assessment of their application (an “approval in principle” letter). In this situation, they will not become a permanent resident until an officer decides that they meet all remaining requirements and are not inadmissible. These requirements could include certain documentary requirements, such as having a passport issued by your country of citizenship.
Source: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/glossary.asp

During step 1, CPC-M reviews the documents submitted to ensure completeness of the application and makes a recommendation on the sponsor's eligibility as a sponsor. There is no review of the principal applicant.

During step 2 in an Outland application, you usually don't get a letter advising the applicant that CIC "has confirmed that you meet the eligibility requirements to apply for permanent residence in Canada"

Therefore, with an Outland application you typically don't have a way to meet the second requirement.

They actually called my husband's Canadian employer. It's a seasonal job, so then they called my husband at home, asked why he wasn't at work, how he was supporting himself. He just told the truth. But I haven't heard anyone here mention phone calls. In anycase we sent in out documents like you, bills, more work papers, T4 paystubs and letter from employer. Bank statements, gym membership, letters from family and neighbors. Thank you to all who helped me sort this out. Package was mailed yesterday. we'll see where the chips fall. Good luck with your, will keep you posted as well.
that was fast, mailed it Thursday, received passport request today! Yea! Thanks all for help . Who updates this timeline, can't remember. Good luck to everyone. :D

Hi,
I also got the same request to prove that I live in Canada. When i applied I was living abroad and I sent them a letter from my future employer that I will be working for them starting September 2012, so I guess they just want to make sure that I am actually here.
Whats interesting is first they asked for a scan of the passport and after I sent it they requested the proof that I am in Canada.
I just sent my lease agreement, letter from employer,bank statements and a couple of utility bills.
I'll keep you posted when I hear back from them.
Just checked online and status has been changed to decision made. I guess that what i sent them was suffucient.
