You don't see the two columns, one showing "Decision Made" and the other showing "Application Received"? In that case, they haven't loaded your case data into e-CAS. You can certainly contact the call centre and ask them why you cannot see the information online - maybe they can get someone to trigger another update.

I've never found e-cas to be very useful.

ok good to know thanks everyone!

Now my situation is that my husband is an American citizen and is here and his son is in the US and he will be coming here too. I am going to do the outland application but my cousin who just did hers for her Jamaican husband keeps telling me I cannot do the outland application and I will get denied. My husband is applying for his extension of stay shortly. We are in the process of getting letters, photos and medicals done but I'm so confused now. Am I eligible to do the outland application??
What is his status in Canada? I know that if he is a Visitor, you certainly can do an Outland application. (I am not sure about other statuses, I'm sure one of the "seniors" here can answer that.) He would have to be prepared to travel to a Visa office in the US if he were to be called to an interview, but the advantages are that if he leaves Canada during the process and for some reason was denied re-entry, the application would still progress. Also, Outland applications can be appealed if denied.

As long as he has legal temporary status in Canada, he can apply via the Outland process. If he does not have legal temporary status in Canada, the inland process is the only real option (due to the public policy decision to allow out-of-status sponsorship for spousal class.)

I have never heard of any case of someone with temporary status IN Canada being refused when filing an outland application just because they are living in Canada.

Note that some provinces will extend health coverage to spousal applicants living with their spouse (even with temporary status) in Canada.

He came here in September and they stamped it until March of this year. So we were going to apply for an extension of visit. BUT we just sent in his Background Check to the FBI which they said takes about 4 months. Now would you suggest he goes back to the US or can he stay? Because by the time we get his clearance he will only have 3 months or less til the extension expires.

As long as you apply to extend his stay before his current status expires, he may remain in Canada while they process the renewal application. It is very common for someone to ask to stay in Canada with their spouse while an outland application is being processed.

Being American, the Outland application will be processed in Ottawa - in CIC's world, Ottawa is not in Canada. ;-)

Would he be categorized in the temporary status in Canada then? Also, which office would I send his papers too? Such confusion as to where to send it and what to do at times lol!

His extension as visitor application? It should be sent to CPC-V (Vegreville, AB) as it says on the website. The website says to apply at least 30 days in advance, but the regulations say the application just has to be received before the previous permit expires. Then he is allowed to remain while they make a decision on his pending application - this is known as "implied status".

The application for PR (both parts) is sent to CPC-M (for an outland application) or CPC-V (for an inland application).

When doing a police clearance throught the FBI, it is asking if we are obtaining this for our own record or for "other" purposes. Which one would my husband check off? A friend of mine is asking and I can't remember which one we checked off lol!

Hi,
I also got the same request to prove that I live in Canada. When i applied I was living abroad and I sent them a letter from my future employer that I will be working for them starting September 2012, so I guess they just want to make sure that I am actually here.
Whats interesting is first they asked for a scan of the passport and after I sent it they requested the proof that I am in Canada.
I just sent my lease agreement, letter from employer, bank statements and a couple of utility bills.
I'll keep you posted when I hear back from them.
They actually called my husband's Canadian employer. It's a seasonal job, so then they called my husband at home, asked why he wasn't at work, how he was supporting himself. He just told the truth. But I haven't heard anyone here mention phone calls. In anycase we sent in out documents like you, bills, more work papers, T4 paystubs and letter from employer. Bank statements, gym membership, letters from family and neighbors. Thank you to all who helped me sort this out. Package was mailed yesterday. we'll see where the chips fall. Good luck with your, will keep you posted as well.
