Even if the amd passes - HoC will reject. It's a painful pricesss for sure. Let's just keep some hope that the amendment will be defeated.amitshipra said:To an extent, Liberals are themselves to blame. It was there top election priority but took a 'real' backseat post elections.
If Conservatives succeed - then at least they are delivering to their audience. I don't understand the filibustering 'allowed' by liberals with the majority they have. I understand process, law but what is going on in bananas.
Sooner or later, we will be citizens, regardless. With these type of amendments, its better if C-6 is juts killed. (at least for me). The backlog Liberals have generated with 1 year of delay in making this success is only going to delay citizenship post C-6 implementation (if it happens)
Problem will remain same - whom to vote?
Nasty people who presume guilt until proven otherwise, the very opposite of a liberal democracy. Most such people just hate immigrants, dont want them coming in to the country, but once they do, don't want them going out! They just hate the fact that some 3rd world people might enjoy the privileges that 1st world people were born into.emamabd said:Some people in this forum are overly "obsessed" about a very subjective term invented during Harper's times called "Canadians of convenience" and think that 4 years to qualify for citizenship instead of 3 would fix that "problem". They are also quick to jump and label you as a canadian of convenience if you say you are "looking forward to getting your citizenship asap".
I don't think anyone here has the right to judge the other...each individual's situation is different and unique, its obvious and natural that any newcomer would be looking forward to becoming a citizen asap ..its an important milestone and a moment that can be "life-changing" for some people.
To me it simply means i can visit my close first degree relatives on the other side of the border without having to pay $200 for a single entry visa each time (multiplied by 4 if travel with my wife and kids)! Mind you... even after paying and getting the visa stamped on the passport..there's still no guarantee i could visit the US as Trump doesn't like my country of citizenship and has tried at least twice in the past 2 months to ban its citizens from entering.
I think patience is the key, 3 or 4 years - at the end we'll all become citizens anyway..its a matter of time
Not for me, I graduated and I need citizenship to apply to the Canadian Army. And since I will get my citizenship less than 5 years, they need to check my security background and I will wait one year more before to enroll.amitshipra said:With these type of amendments, its better if C-6 is juts killed. I am still not sure if 'Good Intentions' with weak leadership is better or worse than 'Unknown intentions with Strong leadership'. All said and done, Conservatives were able to deliver C-24 in 9 days and Libs are still 365 days and counting. I also believe in Justice delayed is Justice denied. Regardless, wait is the only option. Recent Tweet from Sen. Ratna Omi.SufferInCan said:the NDP

When you say passed, is the citizenship eligiblity is 3/5 years now?biotemptation said:yes...passed
Hey, in the last sitting the majority of the senators voted against the residency requirement amendment proposed by the Conservatives (Frum and Eaton), so yes, we are for sure at 3/5 now.kprs_ind said:When you say passed, is the citizenship eligiblity is 3/5 years now?
