If so, whats the process to renew your PR status when you get your new passport?

The other half of this question (the part Parker24 didn't answer) is "your PR doesn't expire".

Your PR card might expire, but it's a piece of identification - you need to renew it periodically if you wish to use it. Once you have become a permanent resident (by showing up at the border with the COPR and formally changing status,) you remain a permanent resident until:

* You are issued a removal order because of criminality or because you fail to meet the 730 days in the past 5 year rule AND the deadline for appealing the removal order has passed or a final ruling upholding the removal order is made;
* You voluntarily relinquish your permanent resident status
* You apply for permanent resident travel document from a visa office abroad, are refused, and fail to appeal the refusal or a final ruling upholding the removal order is made
* You become a Canadian citizen

I was going to apply to Buffalo ( the nearest to me) now NYC is the nearest to me, when I applied next yr. Has anyone else sent their spplications through there? As much as I'd love my application to go fast ( Detroit, Seattle are fairly fast) I really can't afford to fly there should I need to interview.

It's been a while since I've come on here, but this site has been so helpful throughout this entire process!

Our ecas just updated to decision made this week, so we are now waiting on the letter....crossing my fingers for approval! How long did it approximately take others to receive their letters after the decision was made?

Most everyone is sending it and setting their pilot as Ottawa now (even as outland). That's what i just did when I resent mine.

You can write whatever you want on that form: Buffalo, Seattle, NYC, LA, or Detroit and it will be sent to Ottawa. The only reason they send it to a US office is if you require special processing (e.g., an interview) or your passport is not visa-exempt (in which case the counterfoil to the COPR must be issued by one of the foreign consular offices.)

Makes sense. My case is pretty straightforward, US citizen, married to a Canadian, great Visitor's Record, 2+ years in the relationship.... Though not a guarantee, I think things look good. ;). So it stays in Ottawa unless I need an interview? Or is it sent there (NYC) for a quick review and if there is no problems, sent back to Ottawa? Sorry for all questions, just trying to make things clear in my head. Thanks so much for your patience.

I'll never understand that haha. I still don't know why ours was sent to LA ???

I finally received my request for passport documents. 17 months later. And two months too late.

Congratulations, at last!
Our application was filed in June, 2011. Just did the re-medical beginning of this month and still waiting.

You, like me, were caught in the Buffalo shuffle. They were sending things to LA because CPP-O wasn't supposed to issue COPRs at the time. Of course LA wasn't really set up to handle a large number of almost anything...

I read somewhere, not sure how reputable though as it wasn't CIC, that CPP-O was only on a trial basis through this year. In your opinion, should I put NYC in case they close it? Just want the 'peanut gallery' opinion here ;).

It doesn't matter what you write there - they will send your file to Ottawa (or whatever other office replaces Ottawa).

But I think the chance of them closing CPP-O is very slim.

Hi can you tell me what happen to your case since you got email about buffalo closing and your interview cancelled. Any new interview date, request for new medical, any change to ecas, any email from them about file transferring?

I was told that interview is required back in may 2012 and after sending so many emails now begining of January 2013, I got reply that we cannot tell when you will be issued PR but we can tell that we will done with buffalo transferred files in 1-2 months, so you will here something from VO soon and few days later another email saying your file is in transit to LA. But no dates like when it got transferred to LA.

Hi nsr,
Like you, our scheduled interview for June 2012 was cancelled due to Buffalo's closing. File was transferred to Ottawa on July 7th, 2012. We sent out numerous emails and finally were told that our file was being forwarded to LA end of October 2012 and was assigned to an officer to review. Ottawa told us that it's up to LA to decide if any further info/or interview be required. Sometime in late November 2012, ecas showed "in process" and "started processing" on xx(Date). Beginning of December 2012 came in the re-medical request in the mail. We had it done and Ottawa received the new medical early this month. Now we are waiting.
We had requested notes while our file was waiting for the interview in Buffalo and found out there's a concern note on our file. We then sent out some additional documents to address their concern. Not sure if that had helped the LA officer.
I hope you'll hear some good news real soon. Sounds like they have assigned an officer to review your file.
