Hello,

I am applying for outland sponsorship for my common-law spouse since we are both outland at the minute.

I am looking for help with my outland US common law spouse application. I am the Sponsor Applicant and my common-law spouse is the Principal Applicant.

I have the IMM5533 check list for US sponsorship and still confused as to who fills out which form! In searching, I read the Principal Applicant fills out the forms and the sponsor fills out applicable forms or part of form where stated!

Here's my questions that I need help with. If someone can point me to a complete step by step video that can help, I would be very grateful!

Why is the Sponsor not filling out the entire form if I'm the sponsor?
Should we create two separate accounts?
If not, who should create the account?

I also read that we need to print, fill out each application by hand and then start the online application because we cannot go back once submitted, is that true?

Thank you.

It should be very very clear in the forms if the form is about the sponsor or the principal applicant. If you haven’t started filling the forms out, start doing so and I think a lot of your confusion will go away as you start filling them out. If it’s not, read it again very carefully.

Whether it’s literally filled out by the sponsor or PA it doesn’t matter so long as the correct person signs in the correct place and each of you carefully checks the relevant parts. Personally I filled out all the forms (I was PA) and my husband checked over the info about him (sponsor), and then we signed in the right places.

I am not sure about the online account stuff as I applied back in the paper application days. But for the citizenship application online you absolutely could edit things before submission. Once you click submit though, just like once you mail a paper application, you can’t go and edit. So yes, check very carefully before submitting.

Good luck! And really, just start working on the forms and you’ll find it starts making more sense.
