Super-visa or extension

My parents have a multi-entry TRV valid till 2023. They entered Canada in Apr 2019. Also, in May 2019, I applied for their PR, and the application was accepted in 2019 intake cap (and I received the AOR). Their 6-month stay on TRV is going to finish soon. I would like my parents to stay with me until they get the PR (probably next 4-12 months based on current estimates).

To extend the stay, I believe I have two main options:
  1. Apply for regular 6-months extension.
  2. Apply for super-visa, hoping that they will give me a 2-years (or 1 year) visitor record. (I understand that IRCC don't issue visa sticker on passport from inside canada, they only give visitor record).
I believe their ties to home country are somewhat weak, as they have spent a lot of time in Canada, they are currently in Canada for last 5 months, they have applied for PR, and I am Canadian PR. Also I easily meet income requirements (and have NOA, T4) to be eligible as sponsor for super-visa.

Few questions:

1) Which option would you folks recommend me to go with, super-visa application or 6-months extension application, and why?

2) What are the chances of getting 1 or 2 year visitor record (if I apply for super-visa)?

3) Would the impact of 'ties to home country' be less in case of #1 super-visa as compared to 6-months-extension?

4) I heard that the host's financials matter more in case of super-visa; while in TRV, applicant's financials matter more. Is that true?

Well super visa is out given can only be applied for from outside of Canada so looks like an extension unless they plan to go home for a while.

My option #2 was: Apply for super-visa, hoping that they will give me a 2-years (or 1 year) visitor record.

What exactly should I do to get a longer (1 or 2 year) visitor record? Would the application be 'super-visa' application or visitor visa extension application? Come to Canada wizard shows both options, even if I choose super-visa, the application form to be submitted is 5708E (Application to change conditions, extend my stay or remain in canada as a visitor). Choosing the super-visa option explicitly ask me to upload insurance copy and medical test confirmation, which seems like the right approach.

I believe medical tests are mandatory to get longer extension (atleast for Indian applicants). It seems like the only difference between requirements of super-visa and longer extension is the 1-year insurance of $100k.

If I apply for visitor-visa-extension application, can I get a 1 (or 2) years visitor record without submitting such insurance proof?

Also, should I mention in the explanation/invitation letter that the PR is in-process and I would like my parents to stay with me meanwhile, and that's why I am requesting a longer visitor record?

As mentioned before you would be refused for a supervisa. You can apply for a TRV extension and see what happens. Up to CIC whether they get extension. They were never moving to Canada when they originally arrived so it is hard to say if they could be asked to return before getting their PR.

@scylla @canuck_in_uk @Jalex23 Can you please provide your opinion? What's the proper way of applying to request a 1 (or 2) year visitor record?
You apply for an extension and ask for 1 year. It is up to CIC whether you get approved, refused and how long you get. People ask for the length of time they want and CIC decides whether they give them the extension for that long.

If they want to apply for a super visa, they need to leave Canada.

If you want them to stay here longer, they need to apply to extend their visitor status. Don't ask for 2 years.

If they are here without insurance, that is monumentally stupid.

Thanks a lot.

They do have insurance.

Also, would ties to home country matter a lot for visitor visa extension?

I am little confused about how to draft the invitation/explanation letter. Should I mention explicitly that their PR application is in-process, and meanwhile they want to spend more time with me? Is that considered acceptable reason by IRCC.
