Hello,

I got married recently and my wife is sponsor me for permanent residence. She is not disable. She was receiving social assistance on 2017-2018, but she told me and the lawyer that she is not receiving social assistance anymore. We submitted the application recently.
She is working full time earning 36,000 a year. I just found out that she is receiving $733 a month from Toronto employment & Social Service for basic need and shelter.
Does that affect the permanent residency application? Does CIC will deny the application? Please advice, I do not know what to do.

I really appreciate your comments.

Thanks,

Dave

This is Ontario Works which is welfare / social assistance. If she is receiving these payments, she does not qualify to sponsor you for PR. You need to withdraw the application and she needs to stop taking these payments. Once she has stopped taking these payments for a few months, you can resubmit the application.

As said above, it disqualifies her from sponsoring. Also, unless there are very extreme circumstances in her life, she does NOT qualify for $733/ month while making $36k a year and is committing welfare fraud.

Adding, why would she lead you & her lawyer to believe she wasn't receiving Ontario Works, when she clearly is ? It not only will cause the application to be refused, but will ultimately cost you more in lawyers fees to resubmit the application all over again
And agreeing, of course the application won't proceed, and she will have to repay the money she received fraudulently. Her income tax information will be shared with the Province. Yup, it appears there was a communication breakdown to put it mildly in many aspects

How did you not know your wife is receiving welfare payments monthly? Discovering your wife is likely commiting welfare fraud means you probably have more to discuss in your relationship. Is she actually working at a job that pays 36k a year?

I saw an statement in her mail. It is said to see that after being together for two years.

Think you both need to discuss many things if you are unaware about how your family is being supported financially. CIC will check to see if she is receiving social assistance even if she checked no. Would suggest sitting down and addressing the issue with her. The sooner the better.
