My question is to Leon ,Can I sponsor my spouse with having the support of subsidized housing. Would it have any negative effect on the application. I am a canadian citizen. I do have a full time job. ?!

I'd be surprised if that is not a form of Social Assistance.

No, subsidized housing isn't social assistance (welfare). My wife/sponsor gets a housing subsidy through WCB, and we just got SA.

Good to know.

But...if it's not social assistance...what is it?

If her subsidy is from WCB, then I'm guessing it's to compensate for a workplace injury. This is different from someone which is receiving housing subsidy from the government because they are low income.

Contact your housing liaison or support worker to find out.

She lost her prior (common-law) husband in a workplace incident. :'(

I've read elsewhere on this forum, as well as other websites, that housing subsidies aren't welfare. I only mentioned our circumstance as anecdotal evidence of that statement. If you find out otherwise, please let me know? Thanks Canuck_in_UK.

Hi I'm a July applicant , my application is already at the VO and in process... I got my WX-1 visa to Canada till the end of March. What kind of visa is that? Anyone how any idea?

Is student loan from the government or example Alberta Grant, considered as a social welfare?

I believe it depends on the circumstances and where the money is coming from. Your partner's situation is very different from most who recieve housing subsidies and is very clearly not welfare.

As I advised OP, they should check with their support worker.

The processing time for the assessment of sponsor has just jumped to 32 days (instead of 29 previously) for the "Spouse or common-law partner living outside Canada" (Mississauga).
