hello, I'm a newbie here and on the process of filling out the forms necessary for spousal sponsorship. Does the sponsor still need to fill out the FINANCIAL EVALUATION form?Thank you! God bless

What Financial Evaluation are you referring to?

Is there anyone applying or applied application on paper??

My husband is suppose to submit it in person. He is in Mississauga. My agent is telling me that all the correspondence will be taken through mail not any email. Is this true?

there is no way to submit the application in person or by email. there is a delivery address to mail the applicaiton in the guide. generally, cic will communicate by email if one is provided in the application. i would assume the representative form will have an option for listing an email address if he chooses to receive communication by email. if no email address is given in the application, cic will send correspondence by regular mail to the representative. when there is a representative assigned, CIC will not send correspondence to the applicant or sponsor. this is why it's recommended to not assign a representative to the file.

people are talking about checking the status of their application online through ECAS or MyCIC after it has been submitted. that has nothing to do with submitting the application. those websites will show you some updates on your file, when it's available. they are not proven to be very reliable. after your application is submitted and you receive an acknowledgement of receipt (AOR) or sponsor approval (SA), you will be able to sign up and check the status of your file.

Thanks for help. My agent is just helping me with the file. I haven't assigned him as a representative. Confused over so many things he told me :)

then put an email address for both the applicant and the sponsor in the application. that is how cic will communicate with you until they are ready to process the visa.

I see. So the first thing i am supposed to get is AOR and that will be via email. After that I can access their website for checking my application status, is it? I don't know what my agent is doing with my file. He told me all the correspondence will be through mail and I won't be getting any emails.

Make sure you include your email address in your contact info, that way you will be notified via email, instead of mail... It's faster.

yes, that's generally how it works. a lot of people can't access the information online until after the sponsor has been approved.

sometimes cic will change things up a bit and send AOR or sponsor approval letters in the mail. this is few and far between and seems to be a random batch every so often. the majority of people get correspondence through email. Generally, the only communication sent by regular mail is the visa/approval paper.

if your agent doesn't know sponsors and applicants receive communication by email, it doesn't sound like he knows what he is talking about or has RECENT experience with a spousal application. i'd recommend losing him and asking questions on this forum. you're bound to get better answers.

So I just noticed this on MyCIC, a minor change and not sure what it means?
Used to just say "Background check - Not started" now says "A background check is needed - Not started"

Any ideas?
