Well for one, she shouldn't be showing up with all her belongings. You are correct about the screening, to the CBSA she's a visitor and should look like one. She can bring what she would for a normal trip. It's not risky to say how long she plans to stay, don't lie, but then, as is often explained here, "plans change" so you don't need to volunteer information. She can plan to stay for 3 months but end up staying longer, that's not wrong at all. Never lie if they ask something specific though.

It's confusing, but you are allowed to come to Canada to apply for permanent residence, but you have to also satisfy the visiting requirements. It's called "dual intent".
Agreed, and I wouldn't encourage her to bring everything she owns. She doesn't own much anyway that she would want to bring here. She'll need warmer clothes for sure once she arrives here.

Another two question then. Can you legally change your name as a PR? Which she would want to do after we got married. Also, when we apply inland, can we also apply for an open work permit at the same time?

Thanks for your help.

Just a quick question, my wife just sent me the signed IMM 1344 from India by courier, however since then unfortunately I found that I need to make a small correction in one of the fields. Would it okay if revalidated the form but used the old signature page along with the new barcode and pages 1-6?

You can only get open work permit if you are applying inland. Send both applications together with all fees paid.

Mandie has answered your question in the Accra thread. You should also read the region specific guide. For Africa see this link: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/3912e.pdf

Every time you generate a barcode, it also generates a unique number that is stamped on the bottom right corner of each page.

If you keep the old signature page, then that page will have a different number than the other 5.

This could create problems potentially if the person assessing your application notices it.

Looks like I can send my application tomorrow. Can't even describe how glad I feel.
But again one question : P Can I write by hand my name, UCI and date of birth in some papers (addition pages like explanations)?
I have done everything with computer what they suggest, but forgot to add name, UCI and dob in additional pages.

Yes.

Make sure to check the CIC website to ensure that you're sending the latest version of the forms.

Good luck!

Oh yes, I have done that. Two have changed.
Do I write my name, UCI and dob in every paper, like my sponsor's job offer letter too?

All of this information is extremely helpful, ;D however I still have a couple questions that I just cant find any answers to. First of all, I just recently got married in the US and brought my wife into Canada, I told the border agent that I was wanting her to come as a visitor and while she was in Canada with me we would apply for her PR. He told us we didn't need any visa and that we had six months, but on the PR application it asks for proof of status so now were not sure what to do. The other question I had was which is better, the Inland or the Outland application? any info on this would be extremely helpful

Outland is definitely better for Americans. Your application will most likely be processed in Ottawa which is taking about 4-6 months. Just for comparison, the OWP for the inland application takes 4-5 months and the PR application takes 2 years minimum. If she doesn't have a stamp in her passport to show proof of status that's fine. You don't have to include it, but that's only for the inland application. You do not need to show this for the outland application.

Just a tip, you do not need to submit the FBI background check upfront as long as you submit a letter with your application explaining that the processing times are 13-15 weeks and you will forward it when you have it. However, I would apply for this ASAP.

Thank you very much! So just to confirm, she can be with me in Canada and still apply for the Outland? What happens if the application takes longer then 6 months Can we apply for an extension for her to stay longer even if she doesn't have an actual visitor visa? Her passport is only stamped with the date that she arrived

Yep, you can apply Outland while she is in Canada. That's what I'm doing. If the application looks like it will take longer than 6 months you can apply to extend her visitor status before the 6 month mark when her visitor status expires. CIC recommends to apply 30 days before the status expires, but you can technically apply at any time before it expires as long as the application reaches the CIC before that. Once the visitor extension is submitted she will be under implied visitor status until a decision is reached. Be sure to mention that she has a PR application in process and write a brief letter saying that you are supporting her while she is in Canada (include some bank statements, paystubs, etc to show that you have a stable income). Getting the visitor extension is fairly easy and you will be unlikely to be denied. As for the passport stamp, you don't need it for outland.

Alright sounds good! Thanks :) so if we go ahead and proceed with the outland application, will she be able to travel back to the US while its being processed?
