Hello! I have run into another question
I have finished putting together our application.. just waiting on a document from korea and our translations to be finished!

I am a little bit concerned after reading a lot of posts in other threads on here about the "date entered into a common-law relationship"

on CIC it says "Enter the date (year, month, day) you were married or you entered into your current common-law relationship.

Note: This is the date your status officially changed from being single to common-law, not the date you started living together."

So I put on our documents that the date we entered into our common-law relationship as the day it turned into 1 year of living together for example: if we started living together November 1st, 2014.. I would have put November 1st,2015 as the day entered into your common-law relationship on the forms

However, I read a lot of posts in a different thread how the date entered into common-law relationship should be the date that you moved in (which in the case of my example above would have been November 1st, 2014)
They said that the wording is weird because if you were room mates then fell in love and started dating like 6 months later then the day entered into common-law would be different as the day you moved in...
Im not sure I believe this...
What have others used who have been successful as their dates? date moved in or date after living together for 1 year ?

Thanks !
Just dont want to send off these documents next week and have made a big mistake!
I don't know what bad info you have been reading, but it says quite plainly they want the date you legally became common-law, not the date you started living together. If you were living together as roommates that would be no different than living in separate places as friends. You'd still put the date you legally became common-law.

I think I actually might know the thread you read that roommate situation on (if you saw it here), and if you read down farther you will see that the OP of that thread was incorrect.

Anyways, the truly important thing is to prove you've lived together as common-law for a year. I'm sure they get applications with mistakes all the time, but the proof is what's going to affect you.

Celebrating exactly four years since cic received my application for inland sponsorship. Been in background checks for 3 years and 2 months. sent my local office( which has had my file for 3 years) a letter 3 weeks ago with no response. My case a little unusual as i am a failed refugee claimant and i also have conditional discharge. I was charged with the crime in sep 2010. I completed my probation three years ago. was not convicted. does my case warrant mandamus..?
I know that your case is odd but what probation are you talking about?..you were changed with a crime and not convicted but you finish probation?..If you were not convicted how could you have probation? Sorry I am confused....If you want you can email the Minister of Immigration yourself...I have and someone in the office responded to me but why not go for it...You can also go to the press...that wont hurt either and now with the refugee situation people are aware of immigration issues...

Hi everyone...just wanted to post an update that according to the CIC, they are renewing the OWP program for inland applications another year, until Dec 22nd 2016. This is a huge relief for myself and my husband, and I'm sure many, many others. It seems I can't post the link to the forum but from what I know, the announcement was just made.

Hello all,

I have a group of fairly dumb questions. We've just started our paperwork and on the Sponsor Questionairre it asks for my mum's family name. Does this mean her maiden name (I'm assuming no, otherwise they'd specify) or her current last name?

At the end, where you fill in previous spouse information - I can just leave the address blank if he's deceased, correct? I don't have to list the last address.

And what if we aren't sure of exact dates? I know the year and month, but not the day. I moved back and forth between the US and Canada as a teen.

I know this is all very silly, but I just want to make sure. I've searched, but can't seem to find anything. I keep thinking things are obvious, but then I'm crazy overtired so I'm doubting myself. Life with a toddler, I guess!

When I filled out my forms I had similar questions and here is what I did:

Married name because that is her name now.

Put deceased instead of an address

Use last day of month because that is when most people move and add a note stating you weren't sure on the exact day but are sure of month and year.

Hi sunset, i received a conditional discharge. It comes with a condition. In my case it was 1 year probation and community service. My file was transferred to montreal after AIP. It has been in Montreal for over three years.....so its been more than 4 years since i sent my application

Hi All,

Newbie on Spousal Sponsorship:

I recently get married last October 18,2015.

My husband is an immigrant in canada and my current location is on Doha Qatar.

Here are my queries:

My passport expires October 2016, should I renew them prior to application which will start this coming january 2016?

I planned to change my last name when I am in Canada. Will it affect my application too?

Thanks and have a great day.

Hi everyone,

Can anyone help with common-law question. Up until last June my partner and I were common- law for many years. I returned to Canada with our children to prepare home and find a job here. Meanwhile as we were getting papers ready, my partner found out he had latent TB so hes being doing the treatments. Now I am getting ready to send papers again BUT now we have been apart for the last year, can we still apply as common law and explain our case via letter.

Thanks for your help.

Yes, you just have to prove you were common-law at some point for at least 1 consecutive year.

Great - thank you very much. Was my thoughts but wanted to double check.

As for the Common-Law document: Should it be signed here in Canada or in the Dominican Republic where we were living together?

Thanks Again :)

Here are two very important questions:

1. When did your husband become a PR?

2. When we the two of you married?
