is the spouse sponsorship process faster or easier for a declared non-accompanying spouse in PR application of Sponsor?
I declared my spouse as non-accompanying and now I've been issued COPR# (No PPR yet) and I'm confused whether I should apply for Spouse Sponsorship after landing in Canada or change my spouse to accompanying? Any suggestions would be appreciated. (crs remains above cut-off if spouse changed to accompanying)

Hi All,

I’m planning to go back to my country of birth to do just a court wedding with my fiancée. I’ve know her for 5years but officially started dating her 3 years ago and it’s been long distance. I have visited her every year since 2021 and we got engaged when i visited in October last year. I plan on doing just the court wedding with few friends around In July. My parents would go do the necessary traditional rights in September in my absence. Just to clarify, is court wedding enough. I have substantial prove of the genuineness of the relationship, like regular financial support since 2021, flight tickets for each trip, social media chats, pictures of outings each time I visit. All for the photos, must my family members be in there? I know few of my friends and few of her family members would be present

So .......Submitted on May 7th (inland) and waiting. Fingers crossed.

Questions ...

1. The first AOR we receive, that is the AOR for the PA, correct?
2. PA wants to apply for OWP. Went on canada.ca and tried to understand what to do, it's a little confusing... If I understand correctly, after receiving the first AOR and application number, PA can create a new application, apply for Spousal OWP using this AOR, and then link this SOWP application to the Spousal PR application - is that how it works?
3. PA has an existing Closed WP (work environment getting increasingly toxic - best that PA moves off Closed WP soon) and due to IRCC's recent policies, PA has a visitor visa stamp valid for over 5 years and not the work permit stamp like how it used to happen ages ago. So if PA's OWP is approved, they won't have to re-apply for a stamp and they can still re-enter, correct?
I submitted just 10 days before you did.

1. First AOR is sent to Sponsor, you might receive another AOR when the application is moved to PA VO. Not everyone receives that apparently since some VOs don't send one.
2. We applied through GCKey portal for OWP. There is detailed explanation on how to do it on IRCC website: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/family-sponsorship/spouse-partner-children/spouse-common-law-partner-canada-open-work-permit.html
You will attach the Sponsorship AOR to your OWP application, but there are specific keywords and documents you need to use/attach. Read the link.
3. Don't know this one. What is this stamp? Never heard of it before.

What country? Any additional relevant information, like how common civil (court) weddings are vs religious?

How do you mean your parents will do the traditional rites in your absence - what does this involve?

Nigeria. Traditional, court and church weddings are common, but I am not a church person so i am not interested in church wedding. It just involves paying her dowry and maybe a little ceremony but I won’t be available for that physically

I am not an expert and so hesitate to say, but my guess is that if court weddings are common should not be a big issue.

The traditional ceremony: make sure that you do not refer to this as a proxy wedding. Note only that there was a ceremony your parents participated in (if I understood correctly).

I should have added: given the civil wedding, will be VERY important you show time you have spent with your spouse physically, travels together, all of the supporting info to demonstrate it's a real relationship over the years before the wedding. (And you should spend time together after the wedding_)

You must be living in Canada to sponsor a spouse.
"Eligible sponsors must: be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. be at least 18 years old, live in Canada, or plan to return to Canada once your spouse or partner becomes a permanent resident of Canada."

Hi All,
In our Family Class application, my spouse is the Primary Applicant (PA) and our child is a dependant.
After a long wait, we received a PPR letter via GCkey addressed to my spouse (the PA), which mentions using VFS services in India for passport submission.

1. Should we expect a separate PPR letter to be issued for our child?
2. If not, should the passports for both spouse and child be sent together in the same envelope that will be picked up by Bluedart (two-way courier service provided by VFS)

Thanks in advance.

Incorrect. Canadian citizens can sponsor from abroad. They need to show intent to return to Canada, by presenting a brief plan to do so with some supporting evidence.

PRs must sponsor from within Canada.
