You could have done the medical in Canada or in any other country (actually they are usually MUCH cheaper in Canada). There has always been an up-to-date list available on the CIC site, of the current panel physicians you can choose from: http://www.cic.gc.ca/pp-md/pp-list.aspx . Anyways its all water under the bridge now. Hopefully it was only a minor delay and they started processing your app again as soon as they received the medicals.
The most important thing for you now, is to keep your husbands address updated with the visa office. There's a good chance your next step will simply be seeing his status change to "Decision Made", meaning they have mailed out the COPR documents. So you need to make sure they go to where he is actually living.
