Thanks for the answer. But inland can stay in Canada while open work permit application is in process. No need to extend visitor visa?

The Pakistan outland processing time is so slow (25 months) that you might as well just do it inland if you can get her a visitor visa. Doesn't seem like those ties are very strong anyway considering you plan on breaking all of them with either of your options. With implied status you can stay in Canada. The visitor visa is 10-year, with 6 months at a time. People are getting their OWP in 4-5 months, so it sounds like a good option. Make sure she gets a PCC, birth certificate, all that stuff before she leaves so you don't have to try and get it from the embassy later.

No, if your visitor visa expires while PR app is in process you will have implied status. I strongly advice you if you apply inland to send your OWP app as well.

The CIC told us that as long as there is a Temporary Resident application (work/study) submitted, you'd have implied status until it was approved or rejected. The PR doesn't give implied status though -- the OWP does. That's what they told me anyway...

A PR application in itself does not give you implied status but applying for a work permit before your current visa expires, along with your PR app, gives you implied status.

My guess is they ask everybody having applications submitted before June 13th (the backlog time frame).

They did not ask us and we submitted on 30 Mar, 2016.

I do not know much about it...hence wanted to know.

Applicants in what tome range are considered as 'backlog' applications?

Looking at the velocity of some others, I think ours might be backlogged! App Received Mar 2 2016, received AOR May 23 2016, received OWP June 27 2016. Still no update on my sponsorship application, and we have only seen one other thing from CIC -- the request for PCC (which we already submitted).

Same here Profiler. We submitted 30 March 2016, received work permit approval after 110 days. The only update on the application is medical passed. When I called the rep said that all our documents were complete and they did not require anything from us. I asked about sponsorship approval and was told we had to wait to hear from CIC.

I hate to do this, but I feel I must state it, it was said when the program was implemented straightforward in THEIR (IRCC's) eyes applications would be streamlined. Any applications that has something unusual, or is not just a "rubber-stamp" Spousal application which has no doubts on the relationship, again in their eyes, would still go through traditional processing with the resulting times. An earlier poster said EVERY application was in the program, I double-checked...that is not the case.

I'm sorry to have to be the one that says this, but it is the case.

The annoying thing is personally you have no clue which category you are in.

Well, they are still working on my sponsorship application, if you believe the check status tool. Her application still states "Application Received". Our medical was upfront, and the doctor at the time told us we passed (though the CIC makes it's own determination).

It is definitely interesting to hear the differences in time...

@Ringlands : Really!! I guess we are too an inch closer to it now. Being really hopeful and patient too!!Wish you good luck

I cannot say it's terrible. Let's face it, there is a lot of stuff to do to make sure someone is admissible. They allow her to stay here, and we just check on the status periodically now that she can work. In my case, there is an extra complication: her government is a little lack-luster with paperwork and response times. So, I expect it will take longer anyway..
