I agree with Rob. An outland application will be faster. She can enter Canada and obtain the usual 6 month visitor's visa. When you arrive, tell the CBSA agent that she has a pending PR application and bring the file number or letter from CIC approving your sponsorship if you have it at that point. Be sure to emphasize that she is only "visiting" (not moving here) and ready to return to Korea if necessary at the end of the 6 month visa period.

Thanks. At that point when she arrives, we won't have submitted our application yet, it won't be all ready

Sent money home today, will do a full write up when I get back home.

Yeah we will be. Wife will be returning home to visit next spring though as her parents are moving apartments in Seoul.

About the Bank, money transfer. Your spouse will need the following:

1. Korean ID Card
2. copy of passport info page
3. document from the tax office which shows where the money is coming from (assuming you are sending a lot) and that you have paid applicable taxes on it.
4. proof of intent to move/live abroad. This should be your spouse's COPR or the email stating that they have been approved to move to Canada. For us we used the receipt you get when you pay the PR application fee and the letter I got from immi stating that I have been approved to sponsor her. This was acceptable, but my wife was told that she has 1 year to get her PR in Canada or she is supposed to return the money sent to canada to her Korean banck account. No idea what will happen to anyone who is refused PR and can't move to Canada and no idea how Korea would enforce this.

Once you get all the documents in order it is a pretty painless process, my wife just had to fill out one form and then we sat at the bank for what seemed like eternity and watched the exchange rate slowly get worse. When we sat down it was 1039.54 when we sent the money it was 1039.90, but we got a discount because we were sending a lot. :D

Good stuff! Return tix are not much more than one way anyways. Keep us posted on your progress in Canada. Always good to hear others experiences.

Just a random piece of advice for those going to Alberta about your wife's drivers license. The last time my wife traded in her Korean drivers license she had to get it translated and notarized. It was about $75. It might be cheaper to get it done here and that way you don't have to try to find a Korean translator there.

Did the translator have to be certified by a Canadian assoc. , etc?

We had our translated into English done by the driver's license office here in Korea, but they weren't notorized.

I cant remember now. I found a korean lawyer office in the korea town area. Wouldnt be a bad idea to maybe call one of the licensing places and double check. I just remember going through a long process just to get her alberta drivers license.

Anybody try doing it at the Korean consulate? That's how we did it here in Toronto. Cost was $8.

There's no Korean consulate in Calgary. The closest one is in Vancouver.

When were you guys able to access your status online? I still can't check my application status online. It says there is no record even though I have a UCI number. Does it take a while for them to update?

There's an honorary one in Calgary.
