let me tell you one thing : you did change your name legally ok , but the immgration officers that's what they like exactly to investgate because the questions would be always why you give up in your name and your relegion
when someone wants to choose some direction they should ask people around to get more ideas about what you will do .
i m telling you this because now you are sponsoring your husband and the case should be without problems like to change your name or your relegion because that would slow the processing time for you guys

Doing this obviously means I'm marrying my husband till death do us part, not just to get him into Canada. So in my mind that should be concrete evidence that our marriage is real in every sense of the word. Why would I give up my name and religion to a man who isn't to be with me for the rest of my life? Quite frankly your mindset is obviously different then mine.To each their own.

One has nothing to do with the other. Correct me if I'm wrong but Agadir08 changed her name because of her commitment to Islam, NOT for immigration purposes. Not ALL things are done with immigration in mind. My own example would be my wedding.

I was NOT thinking about immigration when I married my husband. At the time, I was doing some work in Morocco so there was the possibility of myself and my son moving there for a year or so and we were discussing this. Unfortunately the economy tanked so it didn't work out which is why I sent our sponsorship and application papers 3 months after we were married. We did not have a traditional Moroccan wedding party because it really didn't fit with my personality. Believe me, I've been to those weddings and they are very beautiful but that kind of thing is not for me. Both my husband and I don't like to be on "display" like that and nor did we want to incur the expense. I PERSONALLY believe that big weddings are a waste of money whether they are in Morocco or Canada. That is just my PERSONAL opinion folks and I support others in whatever they choose for themselves. But we had a small party (two small parties) actually that were small and understated and very casual. This is of course NOT what the folks at the embassy want to see but we were NOT thinking about them. We were thinking about us. Hopefully the VO who reviews our file and interviews my husband will see that.

EID MUBARAK everyone!!!

Thanks for comming to my defence.Immigration and visa was nowhere in my mind when I made the decision to take on An Arabic name and convert to Islam.I did so because I wanted to.Just one more bond that we will have together as a couple! We are very simple people and what you see is what you get! It is certain the VO who interviews will sense this before my husband even speaks one word.If people! are so immigation minded I would question their reasons for marriage in the first place

I'm not sure. It will definitely be closed Monday but maybe Tuesday too. They will definitely be open again on Wednesday because I know of someone who is going to pick up their visa on Wednesday.

anouarjacklyn is right. This is not the place. Because you are BOTH right. Even though something was done without immigration in mind (like my wedding) I know we are going to be asked questions about it. Remember something, NOTHING is off limits to ask about as far as the VO's are concerned. Absolutely NOTHING.

Eid Mubarak

The changing of your last name is all well and good but is not common in Moroccan culture so I don't believe it would be looked upon as a really strong statement to an immigration officer. They will ask any questions they want to ask.

I never changed my last name nor my religion and that wasn't even asked about when my husband was interviewed, we were approved and the officer noted in our file that she had no doubts that the relationship was genuine. The type of questions they asked my husband are simular to what other's have posted here. My birthday, my parents names, siblings names, what I do for a living, my workplace, the nature of my job, how many times I've been to Morocco, who attended our wedding...etc. Pretty standard questions that ANYONE can answer about their spouse.

My advice to everyone waiting for the interview is tell your spouse everything about yourself, quiz him/her on your relatives names, be prepared and the most important thing to do at the interview is be 100% honest.

In the case of my friend (who's husband is also here in Canada now) the immigration officer didn't ask a single thing about the relationship, he asked about the husband's education, languages he spoke and it was more of a general chit chat about what his plans were once he was in Canada.

The good news at this embassy seems to be that the moron immigration officer we had problems with is gone. YAY to those that follow us, half the battle for you is won.
