Amira, I had seen your posts before but I had no idea the gravity of the situation, nor that your blood-sucking scam-artist of a husband was physically handicapped. In a wheelchair or not, there is a special place in hell for people like him. I particularly feel for your daughter, who had to see the gifts that she made from her heart discarded like garbage. So now we know he is emotionally handicapped as well. My thoughts go out to you and your family.

Now I know he married me to get into Canada.

Amira... I am truly sorry for your situation. I am praying there is some way this can be resolved so that you are not left destitute by this beast.

After reading all these stories and witnessing some of the things I have ... I am not sure I am willing to proceed anymore. I don't ever want to make my daughter suffer for my bad choices.

If the image is online, right-click on it and select "Properties." Copy the name of the image ending with something like .jpg or similar image file - should be in the "address" section of "Properties." Put that between 'img' and '/img' (with the brackets) in your post.

Right, you have to inform the visa office in writing that you are withdrawing your sponsorship before a decision is made. Including the file number in the letter would certainly help. I wouldn't make a rash decision about this though - you'd have to start all over again if you ever had a change of heart.

I just wanted to add my unsolicited 2 cents: Looking at your relationship honestly and prudently is a good thing. Being vigilant about what might happen down the road, especially when you have so much on the line, is a good thing. But being circumspect has limits. All people are different. With all due respect to what others have had to go through, making a snap decision based on someone's personal story is the equivalent of seeing a horror movie about a haunted house and deciding to move when you get home from the theater.

I haven't made any final decision as of yet. But realistically.... I am in the position that I can barely afford to take care of the basic necessities of my family as it is. To then add someone else to the mix that will not be able to contribute for who knows how long... is actually quite irresponsible.

I take my role as a parent quite seriously and looking back I can see how much I really wanted to have someone to help and to be with. This made my mind unclear. Now that I have had a whole year (Jan 21st was our 1st wedding anniversary) without him here and to take a step back and really look at the seriousness of this commitment. It seem like a very rash decision on my part.

I should have done more investigation into immigration and the fact that there is absolutely no fall back plan if he up and leaves at anytime during the first 3 years. I knew about the commitment but not the fact that there is little recourse to aid a Canadian in these situations.

Do I love my husband? Very much...but love does not pay the bills or feed my child.

If this is meant to be then maybe in a few years if there is some financial relief on both our ends we can reconsider. I have lived on my own for 20 years and raised my child alone thus far. I am perfectly capable of doing it for another 20 years if need be. As much as I miss a companion ... I am not desparate for it.

Again.. I have not made any final decision yet... but no one can tell me these are not very good points to consider given my current financial situation.

amira, so devastating to hear your story, I hope you find the strength to heal and help your daughter through this.

I have posted on this board about the ahole I married and some of his actions. I too got a letter from the gov letting me know that I had failed to satisfy my sponsorship obligations when I first moved my husband out of my home after he hit me. Thankfully I had proof that I was paying his rent and kept the grocery bills as well. I contacted them and they cancelled his social service file because he lied to them.....but I was still on the hook for the amount they did pay him. I am lucky that was only $400.

What they told me was the only way to get around this sponsorship responsibility is to collect social assistance/welfare. So, I was advised to quit my great job and go on welfare to get around not having to pay the money back, obviously I didn't do that.

I still have 6 months to go on my sponsorship of the ahole and I haven't received any more letters from the gov, so obviously he's supporting himself or maybe he's with a woman who is supporting him, don't know and don't care.
