Hi
I just want to get some inputs & advise. We had our medical last year and I was diagnosed to have a suspicious TB under IOM. I had sputum smear and culture and waited 3 mos for the result, It was all negative but I was still asked to have 6 mos medication. My children were all cleared so their medicals were submitted right away last year July 2014. I finished and was cleared last feb 2015. After 1 year of waiting my children's medical got expired, and we were asked to have a medical reassessment for my 2kids ages 10 & 15 last Sept 4, 2015 for medical reassessment for new medical clearance which was asking only for an XRAY. We went to IOM to comply for the reassessment, after waiting for 4 hours for the result, we were told that Xray are clear and normal but then the Dr told me that since they were exposed to me they need to perform PPD skin test. I was shocked to hear that from the Dr....why now? Why not during the 1 year period when I was on medication. I cannot argue anymore since she told me that it's their protocol. My 10 year old is negative for ppd but my 15 year old is positive. We were referred to a pulmo pedia, he checked my son, no symptoms, no swollen glands or lymph nodes present. But since it's a positive skin test with negative chest Xray, he still ordered my son to have a 9 month medication of Isoniazid for prevention. He gave us his medical report and we went back to IOM to submit it. They forwarded my children's medical assessment to the embassy. I am just hoping for the best decision from the embassy, I really hope they can have my son continue his medication in Canada, that we don't have to wait till June again for him to finish the whole 9 mos since we could have avoided him being exposed if they requested a ppd skin test right after they diagnosed me. I don't know if there are cases like this for medical surveillance but I'd rather have a surveillance and have him continue his medication and be checked in Canada which is more reliable than IOM. I am very upset and I feel like I am very close in filling a complaint in regional health division of CIC.
