Dear Akkinikka, We had our medicals on 17th September 2015, my wife and my two lil daughters got through the tests and IOM sent them to LVO. On very next day of test IOM called me and asked me for Sputum (smear and culture) and 90 days X Ray repeat. Its is very frustrating and strange for me as i have no history and never complains, never got fever and no lost weight and medically everything is fine. But they asked me to do the above mentioned test. I am really disaapointed, its a sheer wastage of time.

Dont they have fast means for TB testing of applicants. I have heard and talked with various doctors who informed me that there are other methods of examining PTB which are much faster than the ones which are being adopted by IOM. Why do not they use new techniques for PTB suspicious cases and make the life easy for all of them??
hello! Unfortunately we all have to follow iom even if it means waiting for 3 months for the result of the sputum culture. While it is true there are other tests faster than the culture for TB but those tests result to only probabilities the most accurate and conclusive test for tb is the sputum culture test which unfortunately will take up to 2-3months for the result to be available. Mycobacterium tb is a slow growing bacteria thats why they need upto 90days to grow it if ur specimen is positive of tb ... I guess we just have to follow and pray really hard that we dont have tb..lets think positive that the abnormalities found in the xray were just because of previous lung infections that are cured already. I hope and pray u will get through with this and soon have ur PPR then visa.

You are right we have to wait for the results, there is nothing else we can do with it and Thanks a lot for your prayers, i am hopeful that by the will of God things would turn out to be right and we would get PPR and then Visa. :) :)

Same thing happened to me. No symptoms, but after the initial x-ray, iom took 3 more X-rays and then said I had to undergo a smear/culture test and then X-ray after 3 months. Fortunately, the wait of 3 months is almost over for me and I am due to appear for repeat X-ray in a few days time. I hope they do not come up with anything new now.

Can anyone, who has undergone repeat X-ray, tell me what to expect at IOM during the repeat X-ray? Apparently, culture should be negative as IOM didn't call me for the last 3 months. Quite an anxious period this has been, and still is for me.

They will just do the same xrays you had 3 months ago. If the result will be stable then they will upload it in a couple more days.

Hi

I just want to get some inputs & advise. We had our medical last year and I was diagnosed to have a suspicious TB under IOM. I had sputum smear and culture and waited 3 mos for the result, It was all negative but I was still asked to have 6 mos medication. My children were all cleared so their medicals were submitted right away last year July 2014. I finished and was cleared last feb 2015. After 1 year of waiting my children’s medical got expired, and we were asked to have a medical reassessment for my 2kids ages 10 & 15 last Sept 4, 2015 for medical reassessment for new medical clearance which was asking only for an XRAY. We went to IOM to comply for the reassessment, after waiting for 4 hours for the result, we were told that Xray are clear and normal but then the Dr told me that since they were exposed to me they need to perform PPD skin test. I was shocked to hear that from the Dr….why now? Why not during the 1 year period when I was on medication. I cannot argue anymore since she told me that it’s their protocol. My 10 year old is negative for ppd but my 15 year old is positive. We were referred to a pulmo pedia, he checked my son, no symptoms, no swollen glands or lymph nodes present. But since it’s a positive skin test with negative chest Xray, he still ordered my son to have a 9 month medication of Isoniazid for prevention. He gave us his medical report and we went back to IOM to submit it. They forwarded my children’s medical assessment to the embassy. I am just hoping for the best decision from the embassy, I really hope they can have my son continue his medication in Canada, that we don’t have to wait till June again for him to finish the whole 9 mos since we could have avoided him being exposed if they requested a ppd skin test right after they diagnosed me. I don’t know if there are cases like this for medical surveillance but I’d rather have a surveillance and have him continue his medication and be checked in Canada which is more reliable than IOM. I am very upset and I feel like I am very close in filling a complaint in regional health division of CIC. :( :(

IOM just makes the test seem so complicated. These tests are not free of charge for God's sake. They over-do their things. Why can't they just stay within the scope of the embassy ' s request? They just want to run people into difficulties.

Hi sssV!

In our case, we underwent PPD on the 3rd month treatment of my hubby. That was instructed in the medical furtherance sent to us by embassy. Sir, you've mentioned that you were already cleared last feb 2015, what took you to the expiry of your 1st medical? Is there no update from embassy since february, i mean since you were already cleared? Thanks

Hi,

That's the problem, IOM didn't order to have a ppd for my children during my treatment period. I was cleared last feb but because of delays and backlogs my children who were all ok with their first medical got their medical expired last June and we just received the reassessment last Aug 30th. In our assessment form it only shows Xray test for my kids but since IOM is aware of my medical treatment, then they requested a ppd skin. I know it's kinda frustrating coz they should have done that a long time ago and we could have avoided this situation if they were organize with their procedures. I don't know if I should write the embassy about this or just wait for them to decide if they will just let my son finish his medication in Canada. Anyway the drug that was given to him is only isoniazid just for prevention but he has to take it for 9 months. I feel like we are in circles in this medical process. :(

Hey there,

I hope by now your repeat x-rays would have been done?? Would you mind sharing the outcome of your repeat xray after 90 days. I pray that it turn out to be in your favor and May God expedite yours and everyones' immigration process and save everyone from the vagaries of IOM.

Yes, my repeat X-ray was completed and the pulmonologist also checked me, and asked about history as well, including whether any of my friends or relatives previously had treatment for TB. As there had been no such case, so I told him. Then he checked my X-ray thoroughly and wrote his report. He didn't tell and I didn't ask what he wrote. In the end, I did ask if everything was ok, and he said yes all is fine. Then I was also asked by the medical specialist (I guess he's the boss there) to meet him before going. So he made me wait another hour and a half until the reports were typed, then he informed me that all was well and that they will be forwarding the results today or tomorrow.

So I hope it will go well now, in'sha'Allah.

many many congrats for it all. May Allah help all of us and May your PPR come soon now. Pray for me as well. My repeat xray is on 17 December 2015. I think my Sputum smear is negative as IOM did not call me even after 7 days of sample now next stage is Culture the result of which would come in 8th week ( I pray Allah for its negative outcome) thereafter on 17 December 2015 would go for repeat x ray. Where are you from and which is your IOM???

In'sha'Allah, all will go well regarding your test. My medical was at Islamabad IOM. Its an anxious wait, but don't let it get to you. If you don't feel sick, that means everything is fine.

They will call you for xray this will be like after 3 months within 95 to 100 days and best of luck for it if they see something wrong again like no change in xrays they will refer you for further medical tests keep going to IOM until they tell u that now you have to wait for embassy. Cheers

No. In most cases the repeat xray will not change from the initial one if your sputum culture is negative. If you tested positive for TB and you went for the 6 months treatment and cleared, then your repeat xray must show a clearer result.
