Processing time for spousal visa - Sri Lanka

So I guess Paper Screening happens right after they received the application. That is when they call if you are missing any doc..

hello fellow srilankans,

I have yet to file my overseas spousal sponsorship, although I am hoping to do so in the coming weeks. I am currently out of status so my situation is quite complicated and I have no choice but to use a lawyer. I was wondering what you guys mean when you refer to the 7/8 month "mark". Is this the standard time that it is supposed to take?

Your thoughts/comments/fellowship would be very much appreciated. I am so scared/nervous about this whole thing as I have had horrible luck with CIC thus far.

Hi Sam,
Well come to forum. I think it is taking over 7 months to get visa. I applied in Oct and no word from colombo so far. It used to be fast. Many of my friends got visa with in 4 months. But it has been changed now.

you will get your visa soon!! lol... the embassy probably hasnt contacted you because they don't need to if they have all your documents and everything is in order

so stop being so blah about it. get ready to welcome your wife here in the summer!! last year there were a bunch of people like us on this forum with similar time lines - Gows and her friends they thought the same thing, but all of them landed in june-july 2010!! so now cheer up child.

it's going to be 12 degrees out side and as my other sri lankan friends says - that's bikini weather for toronto. hahahaha! so now go plan something for the weekend and get ready for summer!!

Unfortunately, I couldn't tell how to handle your case. I didnt use lawyer at all. i filled application up my self. My friend did same think and his wife got visa in 7 months. I called some lawyers and assistance here in canada. They were asking so much money. Since my case was stright foward, i did it my self. Same time, my wife didnt get visa yet. So dont judge by my case.
Since me and wife are tamil, it may take longer to process the application. If your from south then it could take less time than us. If we make mistake on application or any criminal stuff then it may take 16 months. As I know, it didnt take over 8 months for any of my friends. Even one of my friend got register marriage and got visa with in 8 month. She came here last month. So I dont think it will take that much time.

ahh no i'm just happy that at least we're at the halfway point... we have been doing this for so long now that its actually making me appreciate how great my husband really is.. lol..

u know you gotta have hope! i have 3 separate countdowns on my screen for this whole thing and when i started it was at over 200 days now it's at 94 days!! and it says that 59% through the thing so it gives me hope.. to see the countdown and to know that soooon he will be here i waited this long, so a mere 94 days is not that bad that's 3 months!!

Quick update - Sri lanka is kicking some Kiwi ass right now at the match!!!! woot woot!!!!!!!!!!

I hope we can make it to the semis this year and maybe even the finals and win!! yay!

I haven't received any information yet.. i went to the embassy around six in the morning because i was told that they only take 20 people for inquires and i have to come early in the morning. most of them are there from like 4 in the morning. its just frustrating how Canadian citizens have to stay in line to get information, and not only that if u cant speak Sinhalese then your lost. :'(

So back to what they said . everything's been paper screened and waiting for an officer to pick up the application. Now its 8 months and not sure what else to do.

HAHAHAHA!!! I take the subway so all I had to deal with was a short work to and from the station!!

Yes I do have news actually!!! Remember I told you I applied for my CAIPS notes?? Well I have been trying to follow up with Ottawa for weeks now to make sure that they got it and finally got a hold of someone 2 days ago.

Really nice lady and she told me that they havent received it yet and if I did send it out in Feb 2011 they should have it by now.. I explained the situation today about how careless CIC - Colombo has been with our documents and lost them a few times + hubby's medicals are expiring in in June so we want to be prepared for whatever is to come and how Colombo has ignored ALL our emails!!

She said she will speak with her supervisor and see if she can have the 5 dollar fee waived and have the process done soon. She asked me to fax everything to her which I promptly did and she called me the following day to tell me that she received it and the fee is going to be waived and that we should have the CAIPS notes before the end of April.

When I thanked her again and explained how anxious we are and how grateful we are about the whole thing she actually verified when the medicals are going to expire and expedited it to this week!!! so we should have our notes in the next 2 weeks because they will be mailing it out either tomorrow of sometime next week

She was soooo nice watnxt... I was truly truly grateful to her for doing this for me... So I should know exactly what's going on with my file in the next 2 weeks!! yay!!!
