Hi mate, I was in the same situation as you no more than a week ago, in a nutshell my Canadian fiance had to go back to resume her career and left me here with convictions and inadmissible problems to deal with, although my convictions were quite serious having multiple serious assault charges and previous travel also to Canada I was up front and honest with the Sydney consulate and let them know my fiance and her family were waiting for me, also I had her parents right a letter of character for me to send along with the others. I let them know I wanted to travel in the next couple of months and they responded with a positive email saying they will endeavor to meet my travel plans. I was originally told the wait was between 2-8 months but I was notified last week on the 3rd month which was when they said they'd try to approve it by with good news. I am flying in next month with my letter of approval. I wish you both the best of luck as these times can be difficult and heartbreaking but there is a light!
Also, what three references did you provide (family, teachers, church people lol, business people?)

I included additional reference (advise from Lawyer) from my Fiance and one of our friends in Canada. Friendly letters but sort of stating hurry up she's waiting let him in to support his family and dog! type along with I'm a good person lol.

Thank you for sharing your story and positive result. I've always been honest and upfront with my conviction in Canada/USA and Australia. I've emailed Sydney few times stating my conviction and what I should do. I asked them to hold my application for PR and not refuse it as I'm sending my CR application soon. My partner is returning to Canada and I'll wait etc although no reply in detail from them I'm hoping when it arrives on their desk and they process everything including my PR before my meds expire in August.

Can you clarify your timeline for CR. I might have read it wrong but you missed the date you got approved?

Thanks again for sharing your story. There is not much info out there about CR and time frames.
Sure, it arrived in their office on March 5th and I was approved 29th may. There is still the matter of getting through immigration at the border and the inland PR application approval but do far things are looking up. There was no attorny used either. This forum for me has been the most useful I found along with the actual cic website.

Hi had employment, landlord, family and the Canadian parents references. Along with any certs, qualifications or achievements you had since the conviction. And yes one from the most important person your fiance lol

From what I've read on here once you get your CR approved (or even if you don't need to get CR) you can just enter at the border provided you have an ESTA and your letter. With an application for PR in process once the sponsor has been approved then you can enter without any issues. you may need to show funds as proof you can support yourself financially and agree to exit Canada if your PR is denied.

Best of luck

London, Ontario.
My fiance lives in Essex but very small town and Toronto costs are fortune so London is halfway to Toronto for big city visits and halfway to her parents house. Yourself?

I just saw this posting, I wanted to share my experience. If the person applying for rehabilitation is an American citizen, they can apply at most land points of entry. This is what I did for my wife. We just completed the application and supporting docs, drove down the road to our nearest major border crossing (we live in Maine), handed the border agent the application, paid the fee and left. This is not a well known method for processing these apps, so the turnover is fast, she got her approval and rehabilitation in a few days via email and later via post. I would suggest going to a larger border crossing (they must have immigration officer, the tiny ones generally don't), but not a crazy busy one like Detroit/Windsor). We did ours at the Houlton/Woodstock border crossing. This is a much faster option for US citizens.
Thanks for the info!!

On the application, did you check the application for approval of rehabilitation box or info only box? Hoping to get an answer soon as we are planning a trip at the end of June. We sent one in April to the Consulate of New York (that's the location it told us to send even though we live in WA) but have not heard anything.

Another question. Sorry if this sounds dumb but did you submit the application thru US Customs or Canada Border Services?

I would apply at the border if you can. Applications through consulates can take anywhere from a couple of months to over a year.

CBSA. You literally have to drive to the border and apply if you want to use this route. You don't mail the application in.

Hi all,

What 'letter' is everyone alluding to?
Did everyone receive a letter after you submitted your application?
My American boyfriend submitted his application in December, 2017 to the
New York consulate but he's never heard anything at all. Is this normal?

Thanks for your help!

Can anyone take your CR application on your behalf? or does it have to be the offender who takes the documents to the CBSA?

You will receive one receipt notice once they receive your application and then one you will receive approval notice after one year. Mine took exactly one year.
